The Player Next Door by Kathy Lyons

An unexpected catch...

NBA star Mike Giamaria doesn't mix basketball with love. Ever. Then Mike meets Tori Williams, his cute, quirky new neighbor who seems hell bent on refurbishing her death trap of a house on her own. When she falls from her roof and into his arms, Mike knows he's just caught a whole heap of trouble.

Trouble sums up Tori's life. Despite her academic success, no one believes she can take care of herself-not her family, not her ex-boyfriend. She's determined to live her life on her own terms, and if that includes a hot summer fling with the super-sexy athlete next door, so much the better.

But when Tori's around, Mike can't keep his mind on basketball. He wants...more. And to his horror, not just more time on the court. When training starts, it's game over-it has to be-unless Tori can convince Mike that love doesn't belong on the sidelines.

This was a fun romance and I enjoyed every minute of it. Mike Giamario is basically hiding out for a quite no stress summer for rest and rehab for his injured shoulder. Then he meets his neighbor Tori Williams, who is all types of stress wrapped in one very sexy package. I loved Tori from the beginning. She is smart and incredibly quirky and totally adorable. Mike is very sexy and knows he needs to stay as far away from his quirky neighbor but he can't seem to get her out of his thoughts. They are both in for one hot summer!

My Thoughts: What a cute, quirky, and sexy story! Mike is recovering from an injury while staying at a friend's house when Tori comes into his life. She's decided to take on the project of fixing up the house she inherited. When Tori literally falls into his arms after working on something on the roof, Mike doesn't know what hit him. She's unlike anyone else he's ever met--smart, determined, and a touch odd. But the passion between them is impossible to tame. Once basketball season starts again, Mike has to leave. Will that be the end for them? The Player Next Door delivers a sweet and unique romance. One of my favorite aspects of this story is that it didn't take place over only two or three weeks--it took a little bit longer than that. They took their time and got to know each other. Definitely made the story better. I also liked how Tori isn't your usual heroine--she had her own preferences in life and she didn't apologize for it. I still don't understand why she spent so much of her life with her loser of an ex (god, he annoyed me), but I was glad to see her make her own decisions. A nice story from Kathy Lyons! My Rating: Very Good

The Player Next Door is the story Tori, a nutty professor type with a short attention span and Mike, an injured NBA basketball player who is hiding out while he heals. They meet when Tori literally fell into Mike's arms when she was trying to repair her roof. She has inherited the house from an aunt and he is house-sitting for a friends parents. They are instantly attracted to each other and they are a classic example of opposites attracting. They are fascinated by each other for different reasons and that is why this book works so well. The story has a cast of wacky and fun characters that leaves me want to read more. The plot was fast, the dialogue was smart and the chemistry between the main characters was steamy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to fans of sports and comedic romances. I was given a free copy for an honest review.

Tori Williams is extremely intelligent, but her family doesn't think she can take care of herself. Her ex-fiancée agrees with them which is why she broke off their engagement. Now she's restoring a home that she inherited. Mike is her next door neighbor. He is a star basketball player who is rehabbing his shoulder away from the media frenzy of New York. When he first sees her, she is dangling from her roof. After he rescues her, they find they are attracted and want to be lovers. Can their summer fling lead to a HEA? Tori is such a free spirit. I love her zest for life and her willingness to take a chance. Mike is very focused and determined to follow his plan for success. These two are like oil and water, but the bond that they establish is powerful. Their romance is very sensual and erotic. I liked these two and wanted them to have a future. Kathy Lyons has a wild sense of fun. I loved the scene where Tori's father meets Mike for the first time. He is handcuffed to her desk chair with a fuzzy pink cuff. Talk about an awkward introduction. I couldn't stop laughing. This story had me hooked from the first page. I had to find out what would happen next. The Player Next Door is great and left me smiling.

NBA star Mike Giamaria moves next door to Tori Williams. Their first encounter has him saving her life as she was falling off the roof. She is known to many as the "flighty one." When in truth, she is actually brilliant and a professor in religious studies. Tori is usually bored with people, situations, life, projects and so much more. Mike interests her mind and her body in a way no one has yet been able to do. Together the sparks are electric between them. Trying to ignore them only seems an endless wave of frustration for both of them. Mike is only in Illinois for the summer. His job is actually for the New York team, and he must return there after he is healed and the summer comes to an end. They agree to enjoy each other with a time limit. Tori needs his help around the house. He needs her to mellow him out and show him the possibilities of a future. He did not believe in any of that before he met her. Now, he is trying to keep her ex-boyfriend away from her so her can woo her himself. This book has a lot to offer. It has good banter, great characters and sports too! I found the story to be engaging ,entertaining and sweet at the same time. I am not usually one for basketball, but this guy is HOT! ***This ARC copy was given by Netgalley.com and its publisher for review purposes only.

4 stars What a fun, heartwarming and amusing read The Player Next Door turned out to be. I totally got into it and couldn't stop reading. I wanted to see how these two would get together and how Tori would handle a serious relationship. I loved watching Mike and Tori get together, they made me laugh and I was touched with how patient and understanding Mike was with Tori's quirky personality. I laughed out loud so many times I even had people side-eyeing me on the train while going to work #sorrynotsorry =D After having said how much I loved this book there was a few things I wasn't too happy about which kept me marking The Player Next Door a little higher. I would have liked the situation with Tori's so called ex to have been dealt with in a better manner. It was like he never got the memo he was no longer with Tori =/ Even though that part bugged me overall this was still a very entertaining read. The epilogue left me with so many happy feels, still smiling...

The Player Next Door by Kathy Lyons The heroine in this story was fun, at bit sassy, but sad too in that she was so accommodating to people that she didn't get to make meaningful friendships in her life. The hero really listens to her, which is irresistible in a relationship. Kathy Lyons can write really hot and steamy sex scenes and this book includes several. Hold onto something. It's going to be a fun ride. Toni Williams is renovating her inherited house in Evanston. She's incredibly smart, but loses interest in projects quickly so the house is filled with partially finished renovations throughout. Mike Giamaria, a NY Knicks player is recovering from an injury and staying in the house next door to Tori. He is drawn to her quick mind and how what may seem to be non-sequiturs to some, are really connected in some way in Tori's mind. It fascinates him and they grow close. Plus the instant lust they both feel makes for a really "hot" and sexy summer. I received a copy of this book via NetGallery.

Tori Williams has inherited the home of her aunt. It is in a bit of a state and needs lots of tlc along with lots of hard work. Her family seem to denigrate her, disparaging her efforts, despite her having a PhD and being a professor. None of her family seem to believe she can take care of herself and she’s determined to stop letting them and her ex-boyfriend influence her. She is a bit of a klutz, however, and manages to fall off the roof of her house whilst trying to repair it. Fortunately, her new next door neighbour manages to catch her and stop her seriously injuring herself. Unfortunately he’s living next door to hide from the paparazzi whilst recovering from a serious shoulder injury and rescuing Tori aggravates the injury even further. He is Mike Giamaria, an NBA star, attractive, caring and nothing like Tori’s ex. Just touching each other confirms their mutual attraction but he’s only there for the summer. Will a summer fling prove enough for both of them? Can he love her then leave her when the new season starts? This is a fun read, with some hilarious incidents and great characters - I really didn’t like Tori’s ex or her sister but Tori, her Dad and Mike were great! Tori can be ‘away with the fairies’ and some assume she’s a total airhead but Mike seems to understand her, they relate well and complement each other. Unlike in so many pro sport star stories, Mike is determined not to have relationships, believing he needs to concentrate on his career which, by its very nature, is age and injury limited. Tori is fed up of folks trying to control her life for her and wants to do what she wants to do. Together they make a great couple and, though I didn’t like the end game, I did think the epilogue was brilliant. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley too, for letting me read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the story between Mike and Tori. Oh my gosh, Tori was hilarious! I loved her sense of humor. And I could totally relate to her lack of focus. I loved her independent spirit and wanting to do things on her own. She was freaking awesome. Even playing dumb to get people to leave her alone - genius. I totally wanted to smack Edward upside the head. He was just so unlikeable to me. Glad Tori got rid of him. I felt bad for her with the way her family treated her, except her dad, who was just like Tori. Then there was Mike. I love basketball players and he was a dream. He accepted Tori and even got to like her eccentricities. They were a great match and had several laugh out loud scenes. This was a great story cover to cover that I truly enjoyed. I was a little sad that it was over so quickly. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher.

Sizzling hot, fun read that you don't want to miss! Wonderfully written, fast paced story with characters that are hilarious and endearing. Not many books have female characters that I fall in love with but Tori Williams and her wacky ways is definitely one I will remember!! With a rehabbing NBA star and a zany genius Professor both hanging out for the summer, things are sure to heat up fast! But with summer coming to an end does that mean that their fun does too?? You'll want to find out, I highly recommend it.

The Player Next Door is a fun jock/brainiac feel good romance. Tori isn’t the only one who falls hard for NBA star Mike Giamaria. He gets her. He knows and appreciates her smarts and the rest of her too. Read The Player Next Door and find your next book boyfriend.

A heroine with something to prove meets a smooth talking athlete with more than sports on his mind. Will these two be a match in the game of love or will one call foul? I thought this was an adorable look at love. It was interesting because Tori was the pursuer and Mike the big basketball star was the wary one. Kathy Lyons' The Player Next Door is a winner. It supplies an entertaining spin on an age old theme. I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review.
