As the title suggests, Kimberla Lawson Roby penned a delightful tale of a son's journey home. But there is more to The Prodigal Son than that story. The author covered several dramatic topics with unexpected turns, which had me turning the pages until the end. It took me less than 2 days to read and it would've been shorter if only I didn't have to work, eat or sleep. Readers will enjoy our hero's growth process as he learns how to forgive and to love again. The characters, Rachel, Matthew and Dillon. What can I say about Dillon? You've got to see the world through his eyes. Let me tell you. He was fun to write, I'm sure. The story stays with you. Marinates. There is a strong spiritual message embedded throughout this work. The ending... The ending... LOVED it. ARC used. Not required to give a positive review.

The Prodigal Son is the 11th book in the Reverend Curtis Black series by Kimberla Lawson Roby. Fans of this series may have guessed that Matthew is the prodigal son. He gave up a full, four-year academic scholarship to Harvard University to marry his girlfriend Raquel and be a young father. Estranged from his own parents, Matthew is realizing that marriage and fatherhood is nothing like he expected. When an old friend expresses desire for Matthew, temptation and repeating his parents' mistakes are likely. Meanwhile in the other Black household, first-born long-lost son Dillon is doing the most trying to win his father's affection. You thought Charlotte was a jealous-hearted plotter? Ha! Meet this dude. " is too short for all this drama." ~ pg. 82 Both sons are the center of this 11th installment of the series. It is always entertaining to read the shenanigans of the Black family, but it was especially nice that this book focused on Reverend Black's two sons and their relationships. In the words of my bookheart Sidne, "Baby BYE." Do not question whether this is a worthy book to read. Just pick it up, turn the drama-filled pages and thank me later. Kimberla Lawson Roby has done it again with her Curtis black series. She has bridged the story sequence so well with the characters we have grown to both love and hate. I believe that this book also serves as a great reference for how important the bond between father and son is from the time they are a child. This love was the type of love that Dillon was seeking after from Curtis, even though he often had the wrong intentions. This book also serves as a reflection of my own life, twenty-eight years old and desiring to be accepted by my questionable biological father for which I just recently met a month ago. Very great read, and just in time for fathers day.

Reviewed by Anne Boling for Readers' Favorite The Prodigal Son is Book 11 of the Reverend Curtis Black series written by Kimberla Lawson Roby and read by Peter Jay Fernandez. In this installment, the focus is on Matthew and Dillion. Things are not going well for Matthew. His wife Racquel’s behavior is becoming increasingly unpredictable. She is ignoring their son and talking divorce. Matthew hasn’t seen his parents for over a year; he is still very upset with them over their attitude concerning his marriage. He misses them but can’t get past the way they hurt him. Dillion Whitfield is the Reverend’s oldest son. Dillion had just come into the Reverend’s life. Dillion is finding it very difficult to settle in as part of the family and he is filled with jealousy. Can the Reverend’s family be reunited? The Prodigal Son brings the Biblical story to life with a contemporary twist. There are so many lessons to be learned from this book. Anger, jealousy, temptation and pride are the focus of this tale, along with forgiveness, humility and grace. I was quickly drawn into this story of suspense, drama and love. The plot is character driven. Raquel's behavior is erratic and she appears to be insane. Her behavior seemed rather exaggerated. Dillion and Matthew are opposites. Dillion is downright mean and Matthew is long suffering. Kimberla Lawson Roby shines light on post-partum depression in The Prodigal Son. This is the first book I’ve read by Kimberla Lawson Roby, but it won’t be the last.

I feel like this was not as good as the other books by the same author, the story was slow in the middle and then every story line was wrapped up at the strange end of the book, some of the characters are very unrealistic that are able to manipulate any person or situation. It is as if the author rushed through to end the book.
