The Rebirths of Tao (Tao Series #3) by Wesley Chu, Stewart Larking

Five years have passed since the events in The Deaths of Tao. The world is split into pro-Prophus and pro-Genjix factions, and is poised on the edge of a devastating new World War. A Gengix scientist who defects to the other side holds the key to preventing bloodshed on an almost unimaginable scale.

With the might of the Gengix in active pursuit, Roen is the only person who can help him save the world, and the Quasing race, too. And you thought you were having a stressful day...

I very much enjoyed this book. A worthy successor to the earlier Tao books, and a rollicking good read. There's no "meaning of life" deep stuff here but what you do find is a strong premise, good character development, likeable protagonists to identify with and a fast paced plot. Did I mention the author takes care to keep the content young adult appropriate? I appreciated the restraint and common sense there, as well as the inclusion of strong female as well as male characters - hero(ines) and villains alike. The aliens are unique, the characters engaging, and the action non stop. Very satisfying.

Loved Lives of Tao. I finished the book in 2 days and could barely put it down. Deaths of Tao was entertaining but lacked the fast pace of the first book. Rebirth of Tao was slow. I barely cared about these characters set over a decade after the last book. It doesn't seem like anyone changed, developed, or matured in the time between the books.

There is a concept of tragedy (this isn't a tragedy!)that says that a tragedy is when all sides do what is right and, in doing so, destruction of all ensues. The main character, Roen Tan, an Everyman, is the one who stops the tragedy from unfolding in this gripping and funny epic.

The Rebirths of Tao is good but the interactions with Cam/Tao didn’t feel as natural or funny as the ones with Roen. The book is again a good mix of action and development and is a fun ride which really advanced the story of the Quasing leaving the next chapter in the story open for an interesting twist. As before the story is well written and I can’t wait for the next in the series!

This series of 3 books went to fast! Roen Tan takes you on a ride as the regular guy does good. Roen made you laugh, cry and laugh again. He figured out what is important in life too. In between all that he helped keep us safe. Read these books and remember what Roen shows you.....
