The Ringing

Concert sound engineer Eli Mercer starts hearing a voice counting down from 8,419 - patient, unhurried, underneath everything. The numbers only go down, and when they reach zero, someone dies. As the countdown accelerates and a concert-goer's video spreads the curse to tens of thousands, Eli empties himself into a dying man to take his daughter's number - and traces the chain back to its origin: himself, eleven seconds at a soundcheck, years ago.
