The San Andreas Fault Zone covers almost the entire length of western California. Some sections are simple while others are more complex extending from the Gulf of California through the Salton Sea Trough into the San Gabriel and San Bernardino Mountains, through the Carrizo Plain into Parkfield, on into the South San Francisco Bay, Point Reyes, and ending in the Mendocino Triple Junction.
