“Skaar” is the second install in Brooks’ “The Fall of Shannara” series. The book was highly engaging and enjoyable. As I have stated about Brooks in the past, he is a formulaic writer. Seldom does he diverge from his successful formula. His writing process often leaves the reader feeling as if they have read this story before. “Skaar” sees the Four Lands being invaded by a foreign invader. To this reviewer, it reminds of times the Forbidden was failing and the Four Lands would be subject to demonic invasions. Fortunately, the Skaar are mortal. Readers are treated to political intrigue on how the Skaar conquer their adversaries. While the book is formulaic, it was entertaining. Longtime Brooks’ fans are sure to enjoy this latest chapter in the Shannara series. Note: An ARC was received from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review

I've always been a big fan of Terry Brooks and I absolutely devoured the first two books in this series. They were epic. The story line is a spin off of the Shannara Chronicles. We follow several young magic users as they are molded into Druids. The second book switched points of view a lot more than I would have liked, but I was totally enthralled with the story, so it doesn't matter. Great read! Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

I would give this book a 2.5. It’s not bad, it’s just not all that good either. I didn’t hate anyone or love anyone (hero or villain). I didn’t really care. This book is like when you say to someone “hey, why don’t we go to that place anymore?”, so then you go there and are reminded. It’s not horrible, it’s just not for you. Unless I read raving reviews I am pretty sure I am done with this series.
