The Space Between: An Outlander Novella by Diana Gabaldon

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Diana Gabaldon returns to her Outlander universe in “The Space Between,” an irresistible novella brimming with adventure, history, and suspense.
Features a preview of the much-anticipated new Outlander novel, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood!
Joan MacKimmie is on her way to Paris to take up her vocation as a nun. Yet her decision is less a matter of faith than fear, for Joan is plagued by mysterious voices that speak of the future, and by visions that mark those about to die. The sanctuary of the nunnery promises respite from these unwanted visitations . . . or so she prays. Her chaperone is Michael Murray, a young widower who, though he still mourns the death of his wife, finds himself powerfully drawn to his charge. But when the time-traveling Comte St. Germain learns of Joan’s presence in Paris, and of her link to Claire Fraser—La Dame Blanche—Murray is drawn into a battle whose stakes are not merely the life but the very soul of the Scotswoman who, without even trying, has won his heart.

This will probably raise as many questions as provide any insights, but then that's what we've come to expect from Diana Gabaldon, right? This is the story of Jenny & Ian's son, Michael, who is recently widowed. Although living in France, Michael has traveled home to the Scottish Highlands to say his goodbye to his ailing father and is now escorting Joan, Jamie's step-daughter, to join a convent in France. Time-travelers await her in France who wish to kidnap her. Can Michael rescue her from either threat? It's important to read this before the release of In My Own Heart's Blood! While only a novella, Gabaldon squeezes a lot of emotion & intrigue into a small space.

I do have to say that if you have not read the Outlander series you might be lost. I love anything Diana Gabaldon writes and hope to hear more about Joan and Micheal in the future. Great read to get me through to June when her new book will be released. Can't wait!

Diana Gabaldon's magic is in how she makes history come alive (the Outlander series should be a mandatory course for all future history teachers). The novellas are great in fleshing out the background characters in her books, and this is no different. And for those of us who can't put her books down, it will be the fastest hour of your Outlander life!

I love Diana Gabaldon's writing, and crave them all the more when i have to wait for the next book to be written and published. This is a good story, and very much in her style. The characters are nicely drawn and the plot solid. I can hardly wait for her next "Jamie and Claire" novel! This just piqued my interest and craving! I loved reading about characters familiar in the Outlander series. This story is about Claire's step-daughter in search of herself and purpose. She is looking for answers to the voices in her head. It takes place in Paris and includes Michael Murray, who has just lost his wife and is suffering unbearable loss of his soul mate. I enjoyed the novella format short but a delicious read!

Too short, perhaps that's the plan. A different twist on the Outlander series. I have more questions than answers, and want more. Does this mean Raymond and the Comte are from the far future; is there a relationship between them and the Dr. who met with Bree's husband when he went too far to the past in search of his son? What will happen with Michael and Joan? What is all the mystery with Michael's sister in law? We need more info / story!

Except "Written In My Hearts Blood". As soon as I can I'll be reading that. Fear the end of my well loved characters. Write on!

Have read all thebooks in the series and love them; always look forward to the authors writings as well. This novela...hmmm, didnt do much for me. Felt like i missed a book or something. I know michael is Ian and Jennys son and that Joan is not jaime's was this just a side story...or something to create possible love connection in a future book.
