Who'd have thought that Rodale, the natural foods guru, would publish the most user-friendly thesaurus ever? Amazing but true. This was recommended to me by a writer's group, and became a prime resource during my 16 years of writing and editing an alumni magazine. Rodale is much easier to use than a Roget-style thesaurus. It is my gift of choice to college-bound teens.

I bought the Synonym Finder for an English teacher friend, because I cannot live without it. I am a teacher and a writer.

My wife and I have separate home offices. I have the synonym finder next to my workstation and use it often. Frankly, it helps me find the exact word that conveys the meaning I really want. Now that my wife is doing projects that also require her to choose words carefully, I often find that I must go to her office to retrieve the book. She has tried the logic that since she 'needs' it more than I do, why not just leave it in her office? I think you already know what she's getting for Christmas.

This is the one most indispensable reference book for me as a writer, aside from my dictionary. It's more complete than any thesaurus. I would be lost, nay, desolate without it.

This brawny reference of correlative convolutions (without all of the reciprocative stalemates of garden-variety thesauri) can vamp up any mythmaker's most pedantical wisp of print. This elephantine index could out-Herod itself only by metathesizing its database into electronic format. In other words, it's a big thick stick writers should carry only while walking softly.

I love this book. If I can't find a word in this one, my writing needs some serious reframing. Maybe I need to take a hot bath with lavender oil and spend the afternoon at the zoo.

I was a staunch Roget's fan until I used this thesaurus; I find it more comprehensive and easier to use, without the annoyance of having to flip to the back of the book for the "theme" synonyms. Roget's is still my backup, but this is definitely the one I reach for first.

being a "carbon based life form", i like touching a book and being able to flip back and forth so this reference is awesome. It offers so much more than a thesaurus it has been on my bookshelf for 15 years. Wish they would do a new edition with a few more words that have come into regular use but regardless, most of the content is timeless. I give copies of the book to new leaders to help them improve their writing and it works.

Essential resource for those of us who like to write but get our words from a book we can hold.

I bought this book to replace one that I have had for 30 years. It was falling apart and ragged and had been used for Crossword Puzzles. Though I do not need it as much as I once did, I HAD to have a new one. I also use it when writing business letters. Great Book!

This dictionary is a very good tool for me as an English translator. I turn to it each time I want to be accurate and to convey the shade of meaning I want to. This is the only dictionary, I have a lot of dictionaries, that assists me in every difficult situation in my daily work. It is like a deep well whose clear water never ends.
