"The word creed comes from the Latin credo, meaning "I believe." A creed is an authoritative statement of basic articles of faith which the Christian church affirms. In Article 9 of the Belgic Confession, three short documents dating from the early history of the Christian church are named as creeds: the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.
