Perth is one of the world's best kept travel secrets. Almost everyone who visits the Land Down Under heads to the east coast to see the country's main draws of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. While these places have a lot to offer, those looking for a more relaxed vacation will be richly rewarded when traveling to Australia's west coast and the incredible city of Perth.

Good weather and good times are in abundance here. Take endless strolls along first-class, white sand beaches or go bushwalking in one of the nearby national parks. Check out the wide range of big city cultural amenities from the fine arts to fine dining. Then kick back and feel right at home grabbing a bevvie (beverage) while throwing something on the barbie (barbeque) in a local park and having a chinwag (chat) with some locals. Not only do the Aussies have a charming way of talking, they're extraordinarily charming people, too.

The Unguidebook™ Perth is the fifth volume in our travel series. We'll introduce you to this capital city and the surrounding area through our original photographs and stories that follow the theme A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Characters™. Every tale is exactly 1,000 characters long, down to the last period. Our goal is to help give you a sense of place, rather than a list of places to go.Traveling to this remote place may feel like it's the end of the Earth, which you almost are. Yet, when you're here, you'll discover Perth is worth the extra effort. Like, most good secrets, you'll feel as if you know something special that others just haven't learned.

About the Author

MacKenzie and Doug were bitten by the travel bug at the very beginning of their marriage when they chose to have a small wedding and a big honeymoon. That 10-week adventure took them through western Europe. Thirty-five years later, they’ve visited 20 countries and 38 American states. They look upon every new destination as a chance to immerse themselves in another culture and an opportunity to share their experiences through their writing and photographs.

When they’re not traveling, Doug is often found perfecting his craft of making gourmet truffles and MacKenzie works equally as hard perfecting her craft as a taste tester. (Someone has to do it.)
