With the economy slowing down and inflation heating up, John takes a new job to help make ends meet at home after his wife is laid off from her high paying job. This new job requires him to travel across the country and work long hours away from home. While on one fateful trip away, the heartland of the country is rocked by a series of devastating earthquakes that cripple the nation by destroying massive amounts of infrastructure, killing and injuring hundreds of thousands, and displacing millions of inhabitants.

Now, John is stranded nearly 2,000 miles away from home with no easy way to make it back to his loving family in need. In his attempt to get home, he battles against the flow of refugees fleeing the devastated area and encounters many perilous—and sometimes deadly—trials along the way.

Meet the Author

Nathan Hale Jefferson, an authoer wants to remain anonymous, chose this pen name as a tribute to some of his favorite figures in the US’s history. Nathan Hale who is famous for the quote “I regret that I have but one life to give to the cause” before being executed, now he hopes to never be executed for anything but using a pen name to keep anonymous might help a little… and for Thomas Jefferson , principal author of the declaration of independence, 3rd president of the united states and one of the greatest proponents of liberty in his time.

The author wishes to help spread the ideas of liberty and freedom through his writing by giving examples of what could happen in different situations that infringe upon a persons unalienable rights. With this goal he still strives to keep political and religious views in check and subdued in his writing, leaving those to the readers themselves to determine, and tries to focus more on freedom, family and community.

Great book, caught my attention in the first few chapters and then I couldn't put it down until I was finished!

This book is boring. There is almost no character interaction at all. It's simply chonological listing of facts and actions the character takes as we follow him trying to get home. There's very little emotion or human connection. Honestly, as a reader I could care less if he makes it or not. I've read these kind of stories before and this one is not very engaging or intersesting. I only paid 4 dollars for the book so I'm not overly disapointed, but I won't buy the second book, and I for sure do not recommend this book.

Ever pick up a book and not be able to put it down? Well. get ready to do it again! This book will grip you immediately and leave you wanting more with every chapter you read! Plenty of action, plot twists, and characters that you identify with right off the bat. While it is a work of fiction, it is filled with information and skills that would sustain you if you were caught in this situation. Very well researched and accurate. While the "flavor" is a bit grim, this book does have some high points that will take you by surprise when you least expect it. The auther did his homework on this one and scored an A+ for his efforts. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

A good survivalist book without a bunch of gear plugs/advertisements and not loaded with tons of details about all the cool toys and setups the characters have.
