This book is not the kind of book that you buy and read within a couple of days. This is a training guide and most importantly a journey into deep work within your mind, body, soul, and spirit. In life, we all have struggles and stresses and we all deal with it differently. We all start to depend on something to comfort us, and for many people that is food. This book helped me realize that I was making food and my body a priority. I was letting a diet mentality, food, envy of other women and their body, my workout schedule, etc. control my life. I was not controlling it. It was all controlling me. And Alisa helped me realize that. Through this book and through God and getting closer to God; and realizing my purpose has opened my eyes to so many things. Food will always be something I will look to to comfort me. But in this journey and in my growth in relationship to God I am getting free. With this book, every week you'll read one chapter and at the end of each chapter, there will be questions paralleled with Bible study to really work through what is going on inside of your mind and hearts. There is also nutrition incorporated and a workout calendar to coincide with the weeks. I do feel that the book will be more effective if used with a revelation wellness facilitator and trainer. Which you can find on their website. I am a certified revelation wellness fitness instructor and trainer and although you may think I am biased, I have gone through this book and the training two times and just applying what I've learned and what God has called me to do through my fitness classes, I see a change in people. I see many men and women asking me about the book and who want change. Who have come to my classes and keep coming back because this ministry is so much more than just about food and fitness. This is the change our world needs- to get closer to God and to become free from society's view of what we should look like, what we should wear, what we should have in life, etc. When we keep God as the center of our lives, everything else falls in line with our health of body, mind, soul and spirit. We are able to not only love God and ourselves, we are able to love others. Don't hesitate to buy this book. If you're reading this review, buy this book and look for a facilitator in your area, sign up with the group, and do this work to get free from the weight that is holding your heart, mind and spirit down. You won't regret it, not one bit.
Fifty-six days seemed like a long time for a health program until I began working through the book. The Wellness Revelation, (by Alisa Keeton, founder of Revelation Wellness, published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc., 245 pages), is not just another get-healthy book. It is a two month transformation in the way you think, act, feel, eat, move … The three requirements are to 1) show up, 2) Do the work, 3) Be real. This plan can be done with the book, with a church body or with a trained Revelation Wellness instructor. Some of the basics of the program are similar to others I have worked through including moving/exercise, keeping track of what I eat and challenging myself. But this program is different in the approach: gentle, slow, thoughtful, prayerful. It also contains the elements of response, renewal, relating and reciprocating. This is not a complete review. This is merely part one of a fuller review at the end of 56 days. I feel this book deserves my complete immersion into the program. So far I have realized on thing, like I'm coming out of the dark green fog of self-sufficiency and pride: It's not about me doing more. It's not about me getting better. It's about me letting go, letting go and not adding to God's perfect grace. It's about accepting myself for who God says I am. God takes control as I release it. See you in a few months, DV. No longer is weight loss about the food. Or the workouts. It's about service to God. Rather than being all about the external things - food intake, workouts completed, pounds shed and inches lost - The Wellness Revelation is about being spiritually fit. It's about finding wholeness for your whole self. I went in having already listened to the author, Alisa Keeton, on the Revelation Wellness Podcast. At the beginning of the HOT Texas summer, I was actually able to complete some beginning runs with a smile on my face! (Note: I am not a runner, so this was miraculous!) Anyone who can make me run with a smile on my face and not feel like I'm dying feels trustworthy. I was buoyed by Scripture and reminders of who I am as a daughter of the King. Keeton is a certified fitness professional, and she understands that marrying our spiritual wellness with our physical wellness is what will ultimately free us to be who God designed us to be. I'm not sure I can put into words the freedom that I have found in taking The Wellness Revelation journey. It's a book that walks you through a journey to find wholeness. But Keeton isn't just concerned about our outward and physical appearance. She wants us to find our rest in God. To find our purpose in who he created us to be. And to use fitness as the tool that gets us there. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This review is my own, honest opinion.
In my quest to be healthier, I picked up The Wellness Revelation by Alisa Keeton to find this book was much different than a book about weight loss. This book is an eight week study in which we learn the living and practical truths of being healthy in our heart, our , our strength, and in our mind. We find ourselves being pointed to love others as we love ourselves. To love them as Jesus loves. Each week readers will find themselves working through the following sections: Reading – a devotional. Respond – by studying Scriptures and answering questions. Renew – through prayer, Relate – the practical application to their personal lives. Reciprocate – stories and testimonies. I am finding myself challenged and appreciating the wisdom found on each page. I would recommend this book for both individual study although it would be wonderful for a group study as well. Her style of writing was comfortable and conversational, never cumbersome. This book was very inspiring, encouraging and compelling to read with easily to understanding and explaining very clearly step by step to the pace toward something greater than the number on the scale and for you to be a part of this fitness revolution. Oh my gosh.....a breath of fresh air in the world of striving!!! This book will be a game changer in the health/fitness/wellness community! It makes me dig deeper and dig to the root of my issues and not just brush the dust off the top. This deep cleans your soul and opens your eyes to a WHOLE new view....the most important view....God's view. Everyone no matter where in the journey you are or maybe aren't even thinking about health or fitness....everyone should grab a copy and dig into it....it's not just about health and fitness....its about heart, soul and life.....FREEDOM.
SOOOOOO good! I can't wait for the world to hear the message of God's design for wholehearted living! I'm forever changed by the truth proclaimed in the pages of the Wellness Revelation. It is filled with many, many great questions by Alisa Keeton that cut through the fluff and superficial to get to the root and heart of the matter of wellness. If you've been in a love/hate relationship with your body most of your life dangling between punishing calories from it to overindulging on them and feeling like you are stuck on a never-ending Ferris wheel, this book is for you. This is not just another diet. It is not a quick fix gimmick. It is not a fad or another cheesy 5-steps to lose 10 pounds kind of book. This is the real deal that will lead you back to your original design where you rediscover the joy of living a wholehearted life in the body He has given you. It is time to take back our bodies and our view of fitness and what "health" looks like from the glossy magazines and Hollywood images of what the world sells it to be. It is time to proclaim wholehearted living in Christ for ourselves that is so much more than a size of jeans or a number on a scale. I have followed Alisa Keeton on her podcast Revelation Wellness (so amazing) and am part of their online fitness program RevWell TV. She is the real deal. I love how she shares her heart honestly but always leads us back to Christ. If you need a transformation physically, emotionally or spiritually - read this book and start listening to the podcast. God has used Alisa in my life in huge ways this past year from body image, to identity, to overcoming shame and so much more. This book is an amazing 8-week study AND it comes with a full 8-weeks of video trainings and workouts. It's literally like having a personal trainer walking you through each step of the process for much less than the cost of one session with a trainer. I highly recommend the book and this ministry!
