The Meherrin Baptist Church, about one - half mile out of town, is, I think, the scoond oldest Baptist church in this State, Shiloh Church, in Pasquotank, probably about six years older. One Joseph Parker, ordained by the Shiloh Church, established where the town of Murfreesboro now stands, about the year 1735, the church known as Meherrin Church.
