I read and enjoy Christian literature so that was the surprising part for me when reading this book. What surprised me the most is how much I enjoyed each chapter. It didn't feel as if I was reading a history textbook or a religious doctrine. This was beautifully written and it flowed seemlessly with some autobiographical connections from the author. It taught me more about the lives of some of the historical figures that I knew a bit about and also about the lives of people I didn't know much about. Christobal's writing style is beautiful and easy to read. This easily could have come across as "preachy" or boring but it didn't. I am glad that I read it. If you want to know more about some of our historical figures and their views of Christianity, then pick this up.

I recently finished reading They Were Christians by Cristóbal Krusen. What an inspiring read! While I had at some point in my education learned about the faith of a few of these men and women, for the most part, this book provided entirely new information on the spiritual lives of some of the world's greatest humans. A great deal of these important people had very unimportant starts in the world, but through their devout faith in God, they changed the world for the better and left a lasting legacy. I enjoyed the length of each biography, and I never felt bored while reading this book. I also appreciated the little peeks into Cristóbal Krusen's life at the beginning and end of each biography. It was almost like a mini-memoir, and it was very effective in weaving all the biographies together. Overall, this was a fantastic and inspiring read. If you desire to leave a legacy of faith in this often dark world, take some time to read They Were Christians. You will leave feeling ready to truly live. I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review.
