Third Base by Heidi McLaughlin

EVERY GAME HAS RULES. HE'S ABOUT TO BREAK THEM . . .
Since becoming a major league baseball player, I've learned a few hard lessons. Like never give out your home address on social media (sorry, Mom). Never shoot your mouth off without thinking . . . and never, ever let your personal life interfere with your game. But then I saw her - sitting alone behind the enemy dugout, watching me - and I just had to meet this girl.

Now I know that Daisy Robinson has her secrets, but there's something about her that drives me crazy. Maybe it's her innocence, her absolutely amazing knowledge of baseball, or just the fact that she is so unbelievably beautiful. I have to take it slow. Prove to her that the rumors about me are just that - rumors.

Daisy might be my ultimate lifetime win. . . if I don't get hit by the curveball that's coming my way.

Ah, Ethan kind of reminded me of why I love sports romance so much. This isn't one of those series that using sports just to mention them and that's it. Third Base actually talks about the plays, describes the game and what a player feels when he is up to bat, it describes his observations and what is happening when he is out there doing his thing- it actually made me wish I was sitting next to his #1 Fan *winky face* but the way that he talked about it while he played made me feel like I was already there! Am I rambling? Can you tell it's been a while since I have been completely lost inside of a sports romance novel? It was so good! I can't wait for you guys to read it! I feel like I can't say too much without spoiling something about the novel but after reading Third Base, I have no doubt I will be diving into the next one as soon as possible! *Disclaimer: A Review Copy was kindly was provided to Reads By Rose by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My reviews will always remain truthful, unbiased and respectful.

I love a good sports romance. As an avid follower of the San Francisco Giants, their top pitcher, Madison Bumgarner (MadBum) grew up in our hometown and went to school with my youngest, I'm always looking for this type of book. I especially like that the book is from Ethan's POV as most romances are from the female's POV, even though I didn't much like him. He was a jerk most of the time but he was funny. I can't imagine being attracted to someone like this even in my early dumb twenties and I loved someone who could make you laugh. Because of this it took me awhile to get into this book. The sports story more than the romance is what kept me reading. One other thing I didn't like as a reader was finding out that this book had been previously released in 2015. In my opinion, all reprints should have to mention this on the front cover. Nothing pisses me off more than to buy a book and find out half way through it, that I've already read it and paid for it again. This was a quick read but really just an okay read- nothing special.

Celebrity has great highs but there are also an abundance of lows. It's all in how you play the game. Heidi McLaughlin's Third Base explores the triumphs and tribulations of living in the spotlight. Ethan is spirited, HOT and self-absorbed. Daisy is more complex. She's full of focus but hard to get close to. Even harder to understand at times. When she allows glimpses of her true self to bubble to the surface, she is also fascinating. The undercurrent of suspense and the enigma that Daisy presented was what proves most absorbing for me.

A sweet, feel good, sports romance. Even though I figured out the twist early in the book, I still enjoyed every minute of it. If you are a baseball fun, this romance is for you!

Heidi McLaughlin is such a great writer that no matter what book she releases, you just know that it’s going to be good. Her stories are true to life and you want every character to be your best friend. Third Base is another example of this. There are so many things to love about this book. What I loved most is that it’s not your run-of-the-mill “famous guy meets girl who has never heard of him” book. There’s too many of those out there. Third Base is about Ethan Davenport, third baseman for the Boston Renegades. Ethan made quite the name for himself in his rookie year (both on and off the field). Every home game, there’s a girl who sits in the same seats wearing her Renegades gear with an empty seat beside her. Daisy Robinson has caught Ethan’s eye and it was awesome! I love these two! If you’ve ever read a Heidi McLaughlin book, you know that she can write romance and some seriously steamy sex. Third Base proves that she knows her way around a baseball diamond. When Ethan is on the field or up at bat, it felt like I was on the field with him. She did a fabulous job of putting the reader not only into the stadium but right into Ethan’s shoes. And being from Boston, I couldn’t help but imagine Ethan and Daisy walking around Fenway Park. Third Base is a definite Home Run for me!

Ethan is the rising star third baseman of the Boston Renegades making a name for himself. He has his eye on the mysterious Daisy, a faithful fan at every home game he is dying to get to know. He finally has the courage to ask her out and a relationship develops. Can dealing with the life and schedule of being a famous ball player with everyone watching his every move and Daisy holding a secret be too much for this couple? Or do they have what it takes to make it? I love baseball and I love a good love story and this one was a home run for me! And if baseball isn't your thing, you're going to change your mind by the end of it. The author makes you feel like you are actually experiencing the game and life both on and off the field. From the description of the plays and what's in the mind of the players and the fans, to life on the road with constant away games, the banter between the players, the locker room, the gossip and media hype, it's truly incredible how you feel a part of it all. Even the secondary characters consisting of the other players and family members are a true gem and provide lots of heart and laughs. I cannot wait to have more in this series and see who is up to bat next! A definite must read for everyone!

Heidi McLaughlin gets a home run with all three bases covered with this book. This story involves baseball and journalism, but best of all Ethan and Daisy. What an amazing couple. Ethan Davenport is the third baseman for the Boston Renegades; Daisy Robinson is a college student who also happens to be a fan of the Boston Renegades. When their eyes meet at the stadium things start to happen. Ethan takes the first step and their relationship starts, but not everything is hearts and flowers, Ethan has a crazy schedule, traveling a lot and just a few days off. Daisy is a busy college student; so you can now imagine everything they have to go through, and then throw away secrets that threaten their relationship. Heidi had me on a rollercoaster all the time, I enjoyed this book immensely, the pace of the book is constant making you want to read it all in one sit, I did, and I’m not a super baseball fan but I loved this book, it totally has now a place in my heart and as always will look forward for what Heidi writes next.
