Throwing My Life Away by Liz Czukas

She only has two weeks to get it all back.

Mariska Bokori never thought she'd spend her last two weeks of summer planning a fake prom, almost getting arrested in her pajamas, or falling for a guy with such an awful haircut. But that was before her stepfather accidentally threw away all her high school mementos.

Now, armed with only her trusty camera and a deep-seated fear of leaving for college, Mariska is determined to recreate some of her favorite moments before her friends are scattered to the four corners of higher education. There's no time to lose, and there's certainly no time to be almost kissing Caine Fitzgibbon at every turn. They're just friends. And he thinks her plan is "unnecessary." But what does he know? He's about as sentimental as a park bench.

Except, somehow, he's always there. And it turns out he might just know a thing or two about losing your past, if Mariska is willing to listen.

Throwing My Life Away is a glimpse into days past and a reminder to live in the present. Liz Czukas captures the essence of high school and the nostalgia of childhood in a tale that could have been my own (if I actually remembered to take photographs)! Mariska, the main character, is lucky to have such amazing friends that help her see that although the past was wonderful, the present and future hold so much more. The pack rat in me was horrified and enlightened by Mariska's story. My husband thanks you Liz, as I may actually start to clear out the stuff that is masking the walls and floors of our home!

What a fun read! I especially enjoyed the attempts at re-creating some of the lost pics, and how they became new memories for Mariska and crew. Super imaginative - my favorites were the ninja scene (no spoilers here!) and the constant back and forth with the yearbooks between Mariska and Caine. This story should connect with any newly graduated high schooler anxious about letting go of the familiar and branching out toward the next chapter of college and/or beyond. Sweet romantic tension between the cute couple - friends to crushes is always my favorite! Liz Czukas/Ellie Cahill has become one of my favorite YA/NA authors - always eager to gobble up her next adventure! I highly recommend!

I have loved all of Liz's books and she writes some of the best banter, so I was ridiculously excited to get the chance to read this early. I liked Mariska. She's a little crazy with the memories and the sentimentality, but somehow it works. I loved her friends {especially Sun} and Caine {surprise surprise} and all of the do over events. There was a bit of drama and a lot of crying, but there was also a lot of banter. And I seriously thrive on banter. Overall, a quick and cute read with a satisfying ending. I can't wait to see what Liz comes up with next. **Huge thanks to Liz for providing the arc free of charge**
