**FEATURING EXCLUSIVE CONTENT, INCLUDING A BONUS CHAPTER FROM REN; A BONUS CHAPTER FROM YESUBAI'S MOTHER, YUVAKSHI; AND THE FIRST CHAPTER FROM TIGER'S DREAM

Before the curse, there was a promise. A prequel to the bestselling Tiger's Curse series, this much anticipated novella recalls the beginning of Ren and Kishan's story. Before Kelsey there was a girl, raised by a villain, whose love for a hero changed the course of history.

Trapped under the thumb of her abusive and powerful father Lokesh, Yesubai struggles to keep her own magical abilities secret while evading his dark powers. When Lokesh promises Yesubai to the prince of a neighboring kingdom, she becomes the central pawn in his plot to destroy the ruling family and take power for himself. Yesubai is trapped by her father's threats and desperate to protect the man she comes to love, but she knows that any decision she makes will have dire consequences. As dark forces gather around her, Yesubai must decide if she's willing to reveal that somewhere deep within her she has the power to change everything.

4.5/5 Stars from IndieReader

"Houck's flowing, storytelling style offers a fast-paced and intriguing adventure, that as a stand alone might be somewhat perplexing... but as a quick prequel will no doubt offer some insight to the next book. TIGER'S PROMISE is a spellbinding story about a young girl's struggle against evil personified-in her father."

This is a prequel to the Tiger's Curse series. I loved it! Yesubai is a fantastic character. I loved meeting her. She is actually one of the bravest characters in this series. She is sixteen years old, but has a maturity about her due to her upbringing. She has grown up in an abusive household, but her spirit has not been broken. She has a steely determination to not give in and show weakness. Meeting a prince from a neighbouring kingdom offers her the chance to change her fate. However, destiny intervenes. This is a fabulous little novella, and we get to see Yesubai's childhood, and I found myself in awe of this young woman. She has not had an easy life, but she instinctively knows that her father is dangerous and not to be trifled with. However, she rebels in her own way. I love how the author brought the characters to life. Lokesh has no redeeming qualities that I could see. I was a bit confused as to why he kept Yesubai alive, even though he had killed her mother. I don't know what stayed his hand. Perhaps he did love his daughter in his own way. Nevertheless, I am glad that he did. The story doesn't have a happy ending, but I now understand how the "curse" was placed on Ren and Kishan.  However, this is not the end of the book, as there are a couple of bonus chapters. The first one is through the eyes of Yesubai's mother, Yuvakshi; and the second one is Ren's perspective when he agrees to be betrothed to Yesubai. Then there is a sneak peek at Tiger's Dream's prologue. However, I don't know when it will be released, and I am now quite anxious to get my hands on it! Colleen Houck has written a wonderful back story to the Tiger's Curse series. Her characters are extremely lifelike and her descriptive prose made it easy for me to "see" the story as if watching a movie. She is a very talented writer, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future. I highly recommend this book if you love the Tiger's Curse series as a whole, or YA, Mythology, Romance or Action/Adventure genres. - Lynn Worton

If the Tiger Saga series is even half as good as this book was, I've been really missing out! I've been meaning to read this series for approximately one million years. When this prequel came out, I latched onto it and used it as my gateway into the series. I might have missed out on some of the finer points of the story by starting the series this way, but let me tell you: I do not feel deprived in any sense of the word. And you know what? This is such a quick, delicious read that I'll be happy to come back and revisit Yesubai's story again later. There is more action and world building in these 60 pages than there was in a 300 page book I recently read. Houck makes good use of her words and boy, oh boy, can she write a bad guy. That Lokesh guy is the most evil character that I've come across in a good, long while. I can't wait to see what happens to him next--it better be bad. (Don't tell me!) I've got a feeling that Yesubai's story sets up everything that happens in this world and I'm hopeful that all these horrible things she goes through brings around some kind of goodness. It sure doesn't look good right now. *sniffle* And how do brothers that lived so long ago become players in the present time, huh? Guess there's only one way to find out. I'm picking up TIGER'S CURSE next! Well played, Colleen Houck. ¿Well. Played.

Amazing. Fantastic. Utterly heartbreaking. The story of Yesubai is not an easy one. But because of her, the brothers were able to find happiness.

**4.5 Stars** Tiger’s Promise is a prequel to one of my favorite series, The Tiger Saga.  I have to admit when I first heard about this project I wasn’t really happy about it.  In my mind I only see Ren and Kelsey, so I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read about Ren and Yesubai.  But while I was reading this I was really surprised that I grew to like Yesubai.  Throughout The Tiger Saga series we hear Ren and Kishan’s recollection of the “curse”, so naturally fans came to think as Yesubai as Lokesh’s evil daughter that tricked the princes.  But with the Tiger’s Promise it is revealed she was as much a victim as the princes were.  It was sad to read her story but now we have a better understanding of what really happened.  But I did wish this was a little longer and shared more of Kishan and Ren’s point of view. After reading this I realized how much I miss reading from Colleen Houck.  I can’t wait to read her next projects, which titles have yet to be released (the book of Ren and Kishan’s point-of-views and her Egyptian series). Tiger’s Promise is a must read for all fans of The Tiger Saga.

I'm reading all the reviews and I'm not sure what to say. I understand that this was a prequel to the Tiger's Curse Saga, which I LOVED, but I could not recognize Ren or Kishan's character and personality. It was like they were completely different characters from the other books. Though this was a fault in my eyes, the plot was interresting and completely enjoyed reading it none the less. I did not originally care about Yesubai or what happened to her, but this book changed those views of her and I have come to understand her. I loved it!

Finally some answers. This precious little novella is not only beautiful cover art, but you get to see Yesubai with Kishan. You get a glimpse of the Rajaram family and realize how much being a part of that family must have tempted Yesubai. The Rajaram family is nothing like the painful upbringing Yesubai had. You cry, you are scared, and you pray that sweet Yesubai can get a happy ending knowing all along what her ending is. Heatbrake, hope, and longing are woven into this book.

First off I want to say that if you haven't read The Tiger's Curse Saga than you should, they are the best books ever! Tiger's Promise is set before the curse and is mostly about Yesubai  really came to love her by the end of the book. Her life is so sad and she is completely controlled by her evil father Lokesh. The book has an amazing story and so much detail. You really get to know so much more about the characters even though this is a novella. Colleen once again did an awesome job bringing the book to life. Loved it!! -Dannielle L (for some reason it won't lt me create a pen name)
