Toot Toot: On becoming a john
The author examines the controversial subject of the relationship between prostitutes and their customers from a different perspective; from that of the john. As we delve into the lives of the women he dates, we discover both their strengths and their vulnerabilities, but also revealed is the narrator's own troubled, vulnerable emotional makeup.

Although told with tenderness and sensitivity. the telling is raw and vivid as the women conduct their business and the buyer of the sex for hire service they provide repeatedly follows his nature and seeks to find love and romance there instead. The otherwise intelligent and resilient man in this story recognizes the folly in that and comes to think of these encounters as fantasy adventures, separate and apart from the reality of his everyday life.

He finds it more and more difficult to keep fantasy separate from reality as the torment that ever permeates his being remains as he ventures back and forth from the one realm to the other until something happens that changes everything.
