About the Author

Rev. Clarence E. Macartney, D.D., was a Presbyterian minister and graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary in the days of B. B. Warfield, Francis Patton and Robert Dick Wilson. He served as pastor of 3 congregations from 1905-1957, most of those years in Pennsylvania (Philadelphia and Pittsburgh). His sermons (especially biographical) and vigorous writings were widespread during his lifetime, and are still often consulted today as models of preaching material and style. He was a leader in maintaining the message of the historic Christian faith with its emphasis on faithfulness to the total inspiration and reliability of Holy Scripture. He vigorously opposed the theological Liberalism and Modernist movements of the latter 19th and 20th centuries.
