But this highly amusing and interesting book that he wrote much later is mostly about what it was like to live in and patrol little Milwaukee, Wisconsin for twenty-five years as a special policeman.

This is a fun look into the past, when a watchman walked a beat in an American city and knew everybody and everything going on around the town.
