About the Author

Gy Waldron is an Emmy Award-nominated screenwriter, producer, and director who has written chart-topping television sitcoms, dramas, miniseries, and movies. He has created three network series, including The Dukes of Hazzard, and is known for the action-comedy film Moonrunners, which he wrote and directed.He started his writing career in Hollywood working as a staff writer for legendary producer Norman Lear on hit shows such as One Day at a Time. After an eight-year run with The Dukes of Hazzard, he segued into true crime limited series. He received an Emmy Award nomination for the six-hour limited series Billionaire Boys Club, and wrote other projects, including The Menendez Brothers, Brotherhood of the Rose, Innocent Victims, and The Unabomber.His creative work for theater received an American National Theater and Academy (ANTA) Award.In 2024, Gy Waldron received a Grady Fellowship from his alma mater, the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Georgia. Whether writing for screen, for the stage, or for readers around the world, Waldron is widely known for his unique blend of action, comedy, and suspense, always leaving audiences highly entertained.With a background of serving in U.S. counterintelligence in Europe, Gy (a.k.a. Gyneth) has written about the fields of intelligence and crime. Additionally, he worked with American operatives in executing orders from U.S. Command.He draws heavily on his experiences when writing fiction. This twisty, time-crossed thriller debut from screenwriter/director Waldron finds homicide detective Kate Flynn, a “terminally lapsed” Catholic throwing herself into work after a messy divorce, assigned to the case of a decapitated woman in Santa Barbara. Over the Lumberjack Special at a vintage diner, Kate gets to know Brother Thomas, the Anglican monk who reported the victim missing, when she had been en route to deliver an ancient Templar diary. Just as Kate asks, “So, what is a Templar Knight?” Twist of Time lives up to its title, launching readers back to 1314, as outlaws descend on Templar riders on an urgent mission. Back in California, Thomas soon stirs not just Kate’s rational detective mind but her heart, too. But the monk has a trick up his sleeve, one that attracts the attention of a tech-sector billionaire and his own plans for world control.

Waldron’s story is told with vigor and a propulsive spirit, despite the relative density of invention in both timelines, centering on an urgent hook: how does the history of the Templars lead up to a syndicate hellbent on world control via technology? The stakes are high as Kate and Thomas race around the globe, cracking centuries-old clues as Thomas strives to translate a diary that many will kill for. The prose is potent even outside the tense, crunching scenes of action—a margarita has “the kick of a pissed-off burro”—and, as they try to keep their relationship professional, the contemporary leads’ banter charms: “How do monks party?” “Gorge on donuts.”

Fans of Templar secrets and suspense will be immersed and impressed with the persuasive historical research and invention. A speculative twist may test readers who prefer their historical thrillers purely historical, but Waldron ties it all together smoothly while seizing every opportunity for surprises. The focus is on momentum, big revelations, and discovering who Kate and Thomas are through action, dialogue, and their handling of a robust romantic tension.
