Love this series. Great mysteries, each one with a different premise. The characters are terrific, the interactions between them, especially Angie and her brothers, keep you laughing and Mel's and Angie's love interests keep you guessing. In this one the franchise saga continues with some unforeseen twists including a murder. Then the ending which started out to be poignant had me laughing so hard I cried. Another great read from Jenn.

Still love this series. Though I did took a little longer to read get back to the series. But what kept me reading was the characters. Also love the cover. Another good installment. That ending though.

This cozy is the eighth installment in the Cupcake Bakery Mystery series. I have not read any of the others in this series, but it didn’t hinder me in any way as to being able to catch up on the relationship between the characters. It may because Holly is a new character, so McKinlay was focusing a bit more of the story on her, but I have to say Holly was my favorite. Whereas Melanie, the main character, was my least favorite. When she kept going on about feeling jealous about her best friends being happy as a couple, it started getting annoying. By the fifth time, I will admit I was just skimming over those sections, wanting to get back to the story and Holly! Having this book set in Vegas was very entertaining. I loved that there was an Elvis conventions going on. And who doesn’t love showgirls?!? McKinlay left enough clues, if you were looking, that you could figure out the mystery. But if you were just reading the book for enjoyment, I could see being surprised by the ending. This was a fun, fast read, and I could see myself getting Sprinkle with Murder, and starting the series from the beginning.

The Cupcake Girls and Tate are headed to Vegas to see about getting their first franchise up and running, but what does a Vegas showgirl know about cupcakes and why is someone determined to see that she doesn't open a bakery!?! If you enjoy a good cozy mystery with great character development and a good plot with a twist or two, then you will love the Cupcake Mysteries! I really enjoyed this book, but honestly don't limit yourself to just this one. Do yourself a favor and start with the first book in the series and read them all! You will definitely be entertained!

Dollycas’s Thoughts Fairy Tale Bakery is expanding! opening a franchise store is Las Vegas! Tate and Angie are ready to gamble on showgirl Holly Hartzmark, to be their first franchisee but Mel still isn’t ready to throw the dice just yet. The threesome travel to Vegas to meet with Holly and their visit just happens to coincide with an Elvis Presley impersonator convention. Mel tries to give Holly the brushoff but agrees to at least scout out the proposed location for the shop. When the store gets blown up in front of their eyes and leaves a lawyer dead Mel finds that Holly is very much like herself. She also realizes the showgirl may be in danger. The Fairy Tale bakers need to band together before everything is “All Shook Up” and one of them has their fairy tail come to an end. These are some of the best characters in the cozy genre. Over the years we have watched them grow and evolve in so many ways. Tate and Angie are now engaged and no, they are not eloping in Las Vegas, her family would be heartbroken. Mel and Joe are still on the outs and she and Manny still have that flirty thing going on. Manny, Marty and Oz all show up in Vegas when they think Mel may be the real target due to case Joe has been working on. But Holly has a stalker so she could be the target too. The setting of this story was very interesting. I have never been to Las Vegas but hope to someday. I am sure I couldn’t afford the rooms that Tate provided but it sure would be fun. One place we were taken was behind the scenes at a Las Vegas show. The whole set up is very unique and not the best or easiest place to catch a killer. Jenn McKinlay has written a wonderful mystery with twists and turns liberally sprinkled through the entire book. She keeps us readers on our toes and we nibble our way through the clues. I started to catch on just a little before the characters but there was so much happening I never slowed down. I was so excited coming into the last pages and McKinlay twisted things again. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I always recommend reading the books in a series in order but this one would read very well as a stand alone too. I bet you will go back to read them all. Even in Vegas that bet would have great odds. Don’t forget all the cupcake recipes. Of course there is a Vanilla Bean cupcake recipe but there are also recipes for Snickerdoodle cupcakes, an Elvis cupcake, and Cherry Cola cupcakes. Bake up a batch of your favorites and escape right into this tasty mystery.

This series just keeps getting better with each new book. Mel, Tate and Angie go to Las Vegas to discuss selling a franchise of their cupcake shop. Someone or something seems to be interfering with the locations being viewed for the shop. Life just can't give these three a break. There is much confusion as they try to figure out if the target is one of them or on Holly, the woman who wants to buy the franchise. They must all work together to keep each other safe while finding out the reason behind all of the bad luck they are having.

I really enjoyed being on the road with Mel, Angie and Tate when they head to nearby Vegas to look into a franchise opportunity for Fairy Tale Cupcakes. Mel is out of sorts, she's feeling some third wheel-ishness, and is uncertain if this is the right thing to do for her little bakery. They meet up with Holly, who is hoping to wow them with her baking skills. The twists in the story were welcome, the outcome and bad guy were hard to guess until near the end. It's a great series, here's to many more!

Vanilla Beaned is the eight book in the A Cupcake Bakery Mystery series. Angie, Mel and Tate are on their way o Las Vegas to sign papers with Holly Hartzmark, lead dancer at a casino, for the first franchise of Fairy Tale Cupcakes. As they are meeting with Holly, Mel still has her doubts about letting her purchase the francise. As they are looking at the outside of the possible location, the relator opens the door and there is a loud explosion. It's soon learned that the gas to an oven had been on. Then a day or two later as they are visiting a second location, a car jumps a curb and hits the building. Mel, Angie, Tate and Holly all escape any injuries and driver flees the scene. At first Mel thinks that these attempts are directed at them, as Mel's boyfriend Joe DeLaura is prosecuting a mobster who threatened to kill those that Joe loves. But the more they talk with Holly it appears that these attempts are directed at her, but they're sure. So Mel and Angie end up going undercover in the dance review to catch the killer. Another great story, with some lighthearted moments in this delicious series. Delicious sounding recipes are included in the book. Looking forward to seeing what Mel and Angie will get into next.

Another tasty installment in the Cupcake Bakery series! Okay, I say it in just about every review I do for this series, but the Cupcake Bakery Mysteries were my introduction to cozy mysteries, and will always hold a special place in my heart, and on my bookshelves. Mel, Angie, and Tate are in Vegas in this addition to the series, to check into opening a franchise. I enjoyed this, but I honestly missed the comfort of hanging out at Fairy Tale Cupcakes. It’s one of my favorite parts of the Cupcake Bakery books. But I know “road trips – and changes of scenery” are also fun for many readers. What I didn’t miss was the witty dialog, first class plots, and the superb writing of author Jenn McKinlay, because VANILLA BEANED had all of that in spades! Yes, you can take the characters out of their element, but you can’t take the perfection out of the characters or the story. If you are a fan of the series, you’ll love adding VANILLA BEANED to your collection. Never read the series? Do it! Now! Go buy the, all and read them back to back. I promise you’re in for a sweet treat! Make sure to check the back of the book for amazing recipes, and a sneak peek at McKinlay’s newest Library Lover’s Mystery, BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!
