About the Author

Vanessa Kier spends way too much time thinking up ways she can torture her characters. A worst case scenario thinker, she's been creating stories in her head since childhood. Now she’s found her niche in writing romantic thrillers that combine intense emotion with action packed plots. The author of six books in The Surgical Strike Unit series about a privately run special operations group, she has set her new series WAR in West Africa, where she lived for a time.

When she’s not writing, listening to music, or playing puzzle games on her mobile device, Vanessa writes the occasional Tech Talk column for her local RWA chapter's newsletter and takes long hikes in the nearby hills.

I thought it was so slow and the female was always having to be saved but she was trained. The end was pretty good but I couldn't take another book with a wishy washy female.

This is intense, action-packed, full of revenge and mobsters, so as such, there are parts that "ain't pretty". The warning aside, this story was fast-paced and well-written. Revenge is a powerful motivator and after what had happened to Jenna, you can understand her feelings. What I didn't really understand where her reactions. After going through a specialised training course, she still went off half-cocked and against advice. Now, before you start shouting at the screen, I KNOW that she wanted to find her brother and that took precedence over, well, everything but still. It just seemed like one bad idea after another. The only other thing that I didn't really understand was the relationship between Jenna and Niko. It never felt right, never felt balanced. Was he really her would be lover or someone she wanted to look after her, like a father, big brother or even babysitter? There was very little communication between the two of them so how they figured out if they were meant to be together remains a mystery. The rest of the story, and the characters, were interesting with a storyline built to continue. I would definitely read more into this series and would recommend it other Romantic Suspense fans.

OMG! This story is absolutely breath taking. Lots and lots of action and suspense and the exact right amount of sensuous romance. I love the characters! From start to finish, I could hardly put it down. I hope this series does not go down hill from here, because I plan to read every book.

After finishing "Undercover", the novella that set up the scene for this series, I was left feeling that something was missing; that the romantic female counterpart to Niko Andros should've been introduced at the same time. Be careful what you ask for... You'll end up with a character easy to despise, and not willing to cheer for. PTSD is not a joke, and so much has been said about it that we pretty much know enough to understand the episodes that Jenna Patterson suffers. What is just not understandable is how anybody would think it is a good idea to train as an "operator" a person that already suffers from PTSD, has a beyond impulsive nature, and can't follow instructions. How bad this character is? Her recklessness is such that people around her get hurt as a result. Her obsession with her personal vendetta supercedes any other objective of the overall mission. In sum, somebody PLEASE tell me where Alvarez is, cause I've go and deliver Jenna myself!

Holy cow! This book was action packed and not lacking in details. It was on the long side, but I enjoyed the fact the story wasn't sugar coated. The story was true to real life situations where problems aren't solved on the first try, it takes many tries. Definitely will look into other books from this author!

The storyline is great, held my interest through all three books. Characters are solid. WOW! there could actually be more stories given the depth of character's lives and occupations. I hope to see more books from this author. Thank you for making the story real enough to disturb me. So much more than half a plot laced with lust.

This first book in the trilogy is a well written romantic suspense novel. The story moves at a fast pace and keeps you in the story. Finished the book in one day now on to the second.
