Fifteen year old Christy Hadden is book-smart, shy, unpopular, boring and never been kissed. That is, until she wins a scholarship that pays for 2 weeks touring Washington D.C. This trip means Christy can start fresh and be someone else for a change. Especially, when she's accepted into the circle of cool, good-looking kids, for the first time in her life. In order to maintain their acceptance, she goes against her better judgement and joins them in sneaking out of their hotel at night for a game. Things go terribly wrong when she and her new friends become witnesses to a murder. The FBI assures them that they're well protected and being watched. But, Christy knows they're not the only ones watching. With no arrests made, how safe can they be with terrorists on the loose? As if that isn't enough to preoccupy Christy's mind, her existence is FINALLY being noticed by the opposite sex. Not one, but TWO incredibly hot guys are vying for her attention. This can't possibly sit well with the other girls, can it? Like she doesn't have enough to worry about as it is. With killers closing in on her, will she survive long enough to see justice served? And with zero experience in the romance department, how can she know which guy is for her? Or if she's even READY for a relationship? I really and truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Seriously hooked from page 1! If the sequel, PROTECTED (which I'm about to begin when I'm done with this review), is as good as WATCHED, this series will be well on it's way to finding a spot on my Favorite YA Series list. This book has everything it needs to be a great YA book - strong protagonist, suspense, mystery, thrills, lots of action, chase scenes, intrigue, angst and romance.

I loved it! This is a clean, YA suspense novel that I was happy to have my teenage daughter read. We both agreed that the characters were real and the situation was believable. Once you sat down with this book you did not want to get up until you were done. The suspense and action grabbed a hold of you until the very end. Both my daughter and I are excited that the second in the series is coming out in March.

As an educator, I'm always on the lookout for books to put in classroom libraries. This book would be great in the middle YA range, grades 7-10, but students in 11-12 as well as adults will appreciate the story. Watched is a teen thriller set in the politics of Washington DC. What if you took a summer trip to DC with other students who are aspiring Senators? What if you didn't what to be a politician, just change your life? What if you witness a gruesome murder? What if you know you're being watched now? Yeah, it'd change your life.

Even though this book is geared toward teens...I found it down-right-fun, creative and refreshing. My interest was held throughout the book. I finished the book in two days. Anyone over High School age and beyond would enjoy Cindy's style and the way she kept you spell bound in "Watched". Can't wait for the sequel.

This book keeps you hooked and reading from the very first chapter. The murder scene is well described and the reactions of the kids are realistic and believable. Christy is an easy character to connect with. I found myself scared with the kids, laughing with and at the kids and trying to decide between the two love interests myself. I can't wait for the next book to come out I am just dying to know what happens next.

Right from the begining I was hooked. So many twist and turns that I had not seen coming. The characters were well developed and I found myself really caring for them. I can't wait for the sequel!

The first thing you need to know about me is that I bore easily. I've lost count of how many books I've put down because by chapters 4 or 5 I'd lost interest. I tell you this because you need to know how hard I am to entertain when it comes to reading. Why? So when I tell you how hooked I was after reading the first chapter of Watched, by Cindy M. Hogan, you'll know that means something. Each and every chapter led me further and further into the life of a fifteen-year-old, unpopular geek-of-a-girl, Christy, who not only wants to change her life and the way people see her, but craves adventure. She has no idea what adventure is until she witnesses the murder of a Senator's aide. She finds herself, and the group of kids she's touring Washington, DC with, in the thick of an FBI investigation and political terrorism. Throw in two hot boys who compete for her attention, and you've got a great plot with lots of action (the deadly kind and the romantic kind). Watched is a fast paced suspense novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page. The characters are well fleshed out with realistic emotions and feelings. Hogan does a beautiful job of describing the scenes and making you feel like you're right there, touring DC with the kids. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

“You failed…Senator,” the robed man on the right, who appeared to be the leader, said. “What… to impress on you the absolute …of a favorable result in this matter? The news…tell only of …death of the bill…told you had the votes.” I had to concentrate on their mouths to help make out the heavily accented words and the man’s large crooked nose kept distracting me, twitching every time he started a new sentence. “We do!” the Senator said. “…them… bill will pass.” “…not want all this attention…it. ..late,” the robed man on the right continued. “No, No!” stammered the man next to the Senator louder than the others. “You’ll see. We have won.” “…nothing!” The robed man on the right, said. With those words, another guard, standing behind the Senator, raised his arms into the air. Only then did I realize that instead of a gun, his hands were wrapped around a long, thick shiny sword. The light reflected harshly off it. With a loud “Arhhhh!” the robed man whipped the sword through the air and through the neck of the man sitting next to Senator Randolph. What would you do if you had been a witness to a gruesome murder? What would you do if you felt that the people responsible had eyes on you at all times? Everywhere you turned, everywhere you looked, and every time you spoke…they knew what you were saying? Hogan has an invigorating and suspenseful young adult thriller which will have the reader enticed to learn more about the heroine, Christy and the band of students in which she travels with. Being a political venture, Christy is young and very trusting. This new scholarship that she has won will allow her to make changes in her life. She does have some bravery, but it all flees upon arriving in a new area with other students who do not know her very well. During this adventure in her life, she does make a numerous amount of mistakes, but one mistake could cost her life and the lives of the group of students accompanying her. Upon stumbling into a well-guarded hotel, making a run for the restrooms, she gets this eerie feeling of possibly been watched. After hearing some voices, she decides to investigate. Thinking that she would find a camera of some perverse way in the stall, she looks through the vents and finds herself fascinated by the suspicious discussion being held in the adjoining ballroom. One thing leads to another and before Christy knows anything is awry, blood has been spilled and one man has been beheaded. Fleeing the bathroom undetected becomes her and her group’s utmost importance, but after the escape…Christy still has an uncertain sense of being watched. What can Christy do to prevent her group from further danger? Hogan has a great plot, one filled with excitement, entertainment and suspense. The character development is a bit under developed, but these are teenagers after all. This review is complimenting the audiobook. The pace was absolutely terrific; it was fast-paced and the narrator was a great fit. She changed pitch and vocalization for every character and added sounds for special effect. There were little to no errors that could be heard within this audiobook, which will make it that much more enjoyable for the reader. If you are a reader of young adult suspense and mystery, you may want to pick this one up. Since this is the first installment in the Watched Trilogy, you are able to jump right on in.

Suited to the prepubecent never been kissed overachiever or the mother who only vaguely remembers such a time. Or maybe it is the great-grandmother who only wants to dream of good clean, dangerous, trips to see Washington,DC. Very nice and reflects television shows of crime and terrorism without nasty vocabulary or explicit sex. Really no sex at all is clear. First person narrative gets boring so be warned. Easy reading level so no problem for 4th grade girls. TEACHER79

The characters and background is described well enough that you feel like your there with them. I've read a lot of indie writers who don't describe those 2 things enough to catch you in the story. I also enjoyed the slight romance touches with getting into pornographic love scenes. This author has a good future and i hope she continues to write!

4 stars This is the first book in a trilogy and spinoff books. I actually had read her new book first and then bought the next 4 books. This is a good story, lots of drama, action, mystery, romance and characters you want to see more of. It does have some violence, but it is good guys against bad guys. Christy is the main character. She is 15 on a special trip to Washington D.C. She won a scholarship. She is bright and smart but socially backwards. She can remember everything she sees. She wants to change while she is gone. Christy and the seven others of her mini group have snuck out after curfew. They sneak into a hotel too use the restrooms. Christy hears something in the vent. She climbs on toilet seat because she wants to make sure nobody is up there taking pictures. She gets one of the other girls to look with her and while they are looking down in the ballroom below they see a Senator, plus a bunch of men and see someone get killed. The other girl faints and makes noise and soon even the boys come in and look. They get caught sneaking out but the terrorists are not sure if the kids actually saw anyone. But they are followed.
