Having excavated an extraterrestrial capsule, the ambitious archaeologist, Kate LaFleur, mounted a super-secret project to open up the capsule and study its contents. Inside was a wealth of partially decipherable information about a distant planet and its bizarre inhabitants. After Kate and her team publicly the existence of intelligent life beyond Earth, they faced death threats from religious zealots; her apartment was bombed; and a team member was shot.
