It's easy to pray for others' needs. If God takes a long time in answering--or answers with a no--it's easier to take. Far more difficult is focusing on your own needs, when sometimes you don't get the answers you want. What do you pray when life gets hard or even unbearable? When you lose a spouse or a child? When your health deteriorates? When your spiritual life seems barren? Linda Evans Shepherd knows what it's like to pray in the most dire of circumstances. She shows readers the how, what, and when of praying for themselves. As she takes readers through her own prayer journey and the stories of others, they will be encouraged and equipped to pray for themselves in any circumstance. They'll also find that whether or not God changes their circumstances, he will use prayer to change them.

I think we'd all admit that there is no shortage of needs to pray for/about, but at times we struggle with just how to do it. What do we say? How do we say it? What's the most effective approach? Are our prayers reaching beyond the ceiling to God's ears, or are they just empty words bouncing back at us and mocking our efforts? Author and speaker Linda Evans Shepherd has tackled this common topic in her practical yet poignant new book When You Don't Know What to Pray: How to Talk to God About Anything. Because Linda is herself a deeply committed woman of prayer, driven to that place by desperate circumstances and her abiding faith in a merciful God, her words ring true and her advice is solid. If you and/or someone you know struggle with effective prayer, consider getting a copy of this book for personal study--and get a copy (or two!) for someone else who needs it. Then watch and see what our faithful God will do!

Words cannot describe what this book did for my prayer life. After reading it, I realized that my idea of prayer was so wrong and it helped me to see what God really intends for prayer to be. I recommend this book to all who are confused about prayer, or just want to have a better prayer life!

Some books come at the time you really need them and this is one of those books. I am not a religious person, I chose to have a one on one relationship with God. With that said I found the writers use of scripture wonderfully used in making her point with out it being over the top. Reading this book reminded me what I had lost in my relationship with god and reminded me how I prayed to him all the time just in everyday conversation with him. This little gem put me right back into the relationship I had before and I see and feel my life changing because of it. I continue to read it for inspiration.
