Overview

There's prayer--and then there's intercessory prayer. What's the difference? How do we know when intercessory prayer is called for? And even if we feel the call to pray boldly for ourselves or others, how do we do it? What do we say? And what response should we expect from God?

In this practical and encouraging book, Linda Evans Shepherd explains what intercessory prayer is, how to pray as an intercessor, and how to experience victory. With chapters devoted to praying for family, others, provision, health, breakthroughs, salvation of loved ones, church, community, country, and more, you'll quickly find the specific help you need to pray for the needs close to your heart. You'll also learn how to develop your own intercessory prayer battle strategy and to celebrate each victory with thanksgiving.

If you're someone with a deeply felt need to pray for others, to bring your burdens and troubles to God, and to see God's clear answers to your prayers, this book is for you.

If you are like me, you are always wanting to make your prayer life an important part of your daily life. It's not always easy to pray or to know how to pray but this book is an excellent resource on being a prayer warrior. I like that the author brings a personal note to this book. She shares about her own prayers and when they were answered and when they weren't answered in the way she thought best. She addresses the fact that God will not always answer our prayers the way we want and how we can deal with this. She also brings many stories from the Bible to show how important prayer is and how Jesus implores us to pray. The chapters cover different subjects of prayer such as praying for our families, our nation, for healing, for provision and more. I love the sample prayers as it gives you a spring board on which to start your prayers if you're unsure of how to start your prayers. Over all, I really liked this book and felt like I came away from it with a great understanding of prayer and a deeper desire to pray in all things. I highly recommend this book and give it 5 stars. *This book was provided to me by Revell. I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this book.

The title of this book was intriguing and made me want to read it. The focus of the book is intercessory prayer and includes topics such as praying for others, our families, provisions, healing, communities, churches, pastors and our nation. One aspect I appreciated most about the book was the many samples of prayer the author included. These prayers are something I will refer back to again and again. The author also includes prayers for breakthroughs, strongholds, and to win battles. She uses lots of scripture references and examples from other people she knows to explain and solidify her points. Many of the examples were good, but there were occasional examples that I couldn’t relate to such as the ones where she said, “the Lord told her (or the Lord told me) ……… “. I also wasn’t convinced about her chapter on prayer giftings, the categories she mentioned were to me, aspects of prayer not necessarily giftings. One of the other topics she writes about throughout the book is when our prayers are answered with a no. Her acknowledgement of this reality was welcomed and she put the focus on who God is, our relationship to God and God’s sovereignty. I would recommend reading this book on prayer.

How many times have you were needed to pray but you didn't know what to say? How many times have you felt like your prayers weren't being heard? Linda Evans Shepherd has written a book to help you with your prayer life and I know that I am going to benefit from it. She has filled twelve chapters with her own personal experiences and with stories from the Bible to illustrate the different times when our prayers "need to move mountains" I especially like that she opens each chapter with a Bible verse and that she also shares an abundance of Bible scripture in the Draw Your Sword section. And who can't use the twelve beautiful sample prayers that are in the Ready Your Prayer Stations? I have often heard of people referred to as "prayer warriors" but in her introduction Linda Evans Shepherd writes "I am like a prayer investigator". She relates how she has studied God's Word to better understand prayer and that she has seen her prayers answered but not in the same way; some were answered the way she wanted and others the way God planned. If you need to pray about your family, your health, your job, your church or our nation, this book, When You Need to Move Mountains, is the book for you. It is evident that Shepherd is a believer in prayer and that she knows this subject well. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Revell. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

In When You Need to Move a Mountain, Linda Evans Shepherd outlines key steps to being an effective prayer warrior. Prayer does not come “naturally” to everyone, including myself. I appreciate how this book methodically addresses intercessory prayer. First, Shepherd explains what intercessory prayer is. Next, she provides examples of how intercessory prayer works, both from the Bible and her own life. Some may write-off some of her examples of answered prayer as mere coincidences. However, those who have witnessed God answering prayers will recognize the power of God at work. Shepherd also addresses the issue of when God does not answer our prayers, or when they are not answered in the ways we request. Ultimately, there are some answers we will not receive here on earth, but this should not stop us from petitioning God through prayer. When You Need to Move a Mountain has several practical chapters, including Prayers for Our Families, Prayers for Others, Prayers for Provision, Prayers for Healing, and Prayers for Communities, Churches, Pastors, and Nations. These chapters serve as an excellent reminder of some of the many topics that we can lift up in prayer. This book is an excellent resource for those who are looking for guidance regarding intercessory prayer.

When You Need to Move a Mountain is a great devotional. The title suggests (to me) that it’s a great book to read when you are facing a particular trial in your life, but I found the book to be so much more. It really encompasses the prayer life of a Christ follower through all seasons – not just the trials but how to effectively pray and deepen your prayer life always. Each chapter brought encouragement and hope – it was a very hope-filled book. I eagerly looked forward to reading a chapter a day (as per my usual) and felt inspired afterwards. The concepts, while can be taken to very deep levels, were explained and presented in such a way as to encourage all levels of faith – from the new Christian to the seasoned Christian. I was encouraged to find my different prayer gifts (didn’t realize how many I actually had) and it was a book that encouraged me to realize I have a more effective prayer life than I realized. I received this book complimentary from the publisher but was under no obligation to review it. All opinions are strictly my own. I already know of several people whom I can’t wait to give copies of this book too.

"When You Need To Move a Mountain" is a book that helps to bring people deeper into their prayer life with God. Each chapter lists at least one prayer the readers can pray with other people who are considered part of the move-the-mountain prayer team; most chapters have more than one prayer based on the topics in the chapters. Linda Evans Shepherd uses Scriptural and modern examples throughout the book that focuses on prayer. She has gone through hard times in her life and has shown how through the Holy Spirit's help she has been able to help other people through her prayer giftings. It will help people who think their prayers aren't being heard by God to pray with more power. I like that this book follows the layout of some of the other books by Linda I have read. It gives different kinds of prayers to pray for different circumstances. I highlighted a lot in this book as I read it. When I find myself highlighting in a book that shows me it's been pretty deep to me. I was able to tie in what I learned in some of her other books like with using Scripture verses in prayers and praying more deeply in the power, name, and authority of Jesus (Yeshua). I liked how Linda explained that after we pray awhile there comes a time to do what God has called us to do, even if all the answers haven't come, the way seems difficult or impossible, or when obedience is really hard. (page 98) I also really liked how she explained that Joseph was given a vision, went through a time of testing, was taught how to hear God's voice, and was put in a place where he could be used to help many people. Even though I wasn't with the move-the-mountain prayer team in person, I felt part of the prayer team of people that were/are praying the same prayers in unity. The team will probably grow as more people join the team as they get deep into the book. As hard as it is for me to grasp it, this book showed me that I have a prayer calling in my life (maybe everybody does in some ways). That's hard for me because I've had the hardest time receiving prayers from other people in my life. I already knew I had some kind of prayer calling before I started reading this book, but I discovered this book was created to bring it out deeper in people, which I know it did for me and I trust it will for many other people. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

It’s not that we don’t know how to pray. Prayer is a topic we will never be able to exhaust. Life often throws situations at us when we least expect it, bringing along with it another lesson in prayer. When You Need to Move a Mountain, by Linda Evans Shepherd, is an encouraging book which explains intercessory prayer and how it makes a difference in both our lives and world. There are eleven chapters, a few of which include praying for breakthrough, breaking strongholds, and winning battles. There are chapters covering praying for our families, for others, for provision, for healing, for our communities, pastor, churches, and nations. The book is not a “how to” book, rather it is filled with stories of situations and prayers which encourage and will direct one to pray for similar circumstances. Along with these stories, the author includes prayers and powerful quotes from other authors which were hope-filled and powerful. If you are facing a mountain which needs moving, this book will encourage and teach you to pray until the mountain is moved. It is also a great resource for those times when you may not be sure just how to pray. May our eyes be opened to the power of intercessory prayer, so that we stand in the gap with our loved ones, a lost world, and God’s Kingdom. * I was provided a copy of this book by Revell. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I have often struggled with my prayer life. However, this book really helps. This is a book on the power of prayer and intercession with God and includes lots of prayers! It talks about why we need to pray and then gives many instructions on how to pray. It includes prayer giftings and different ways to pray. It covers prayers for others, for spiritual breakthroughs, for healing, for our nation, community and pastors, for provision, to win battles, etc. Each chapter includes lots of explanations and examples of prayers to pray and answers to prayer. They include Scriptures to include in your prayers. If you are looking for a book that will teach you how to pray, this is it! She shows you have you can become a person of prayer and also how to “reverse the works of the enemy, to save lives, to be blessed with provision and to flow into God's best for your life” (Introduction). She talks about being sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit to intercede for others in many different situations. If you have mountains to move in your own life or in the lives of others or your nation, this book will teach you how to pray to move those mountains. It would be great to keep as a reference when you struggle with what or how to pray in a certain situation. There is probably a prayer for every situation written out in this book. Yes, you can make a difference in the life of your loved ones, a lost world and God's kingdom by praying! (Please Note: Although an e-book copy was provided to me for review by Baker Publishing Group, the opinions expressed are my own.)
