When You're Ready by J. L. Berg

Years after suffering the tragic loss of her husband, Ethan, which left her alone to raise their young daughter, Clare Murray still holds the last letter he wrote with the words "When You're Ready" written in his familiar messy handwriting, unable to break its weathered seal. Ready for what? He was her entire world, and Clare had accepted a life without him, without love. Until years later, fate brings her to an emergency room, and face to face with a stormy-eyed doctor intent on changing her mind.

Son of a billionaire, Logan Matthews has spent his life trying to make his absentee father proud. Without a family to depend on, all he's ever wanted is a place to call home. After a failed marriage, Logan believes he's unworthy of love...until he meets a woman who awakens his spirit and transforms his entire life in an instant.

But how far are Clare and Logan willing to go for love? Can his love mend the pieces of her grieving heart?

When their love is tested, is Clare ready to put her whole heart on the line again? Can Logan learn the true meaning of love, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness? When a second chance at love is given, Clare and Logan learn you are never truly ready until you're ready to risk it all.

## Wow. This was truly an amazing read. At approx. 200 pages it was the perfect length. I love how the author alternated between the hero and heroine's POV. That let us get to know the characters so much better. Normally, I hate stories that include dead wives or husbands because of the constant comparisons but this story was written beautifully. The connection between Logan and Clare was magnificent. My only complaint was that the hero once again slept with anything that moved which is always a huge turn-off for me. I get so tired of reading about how many women these guys have "nailed". But the rest was so fabulous I still had to rate this 5 stars. I will read again.

I'm  not sure that I can truly express just how exceptional this book is.  I absolutely loved the story line.  It's a story of love, loss, redemption, and second chances.  The depth of feeling that J.L. brought out with each of the characters is amazing.  I was completely pulled in and was laughing and crying right along with them.  What I really loved was that it was not totally predictable.  There were times I would find myself actually getting a little upset with Logan or Clare, thinking what are you doing, what are you saying, you can't mean that.  The scenes with Maddie, Clare's daughter, rang so true.  Children really do see things differently and sometimes just make what an adult thinks is hard seem so simple.  To put it in the simplest of terms, I think this book is brilliant and I can't wait for the next in the series.

LOVED LOVED this book. I had stumbled on J.L. Berg's blog and her book review on "Lover at Last" by JR Ward, since then I’d been biting my nails waiting on "When You're Ready" to hit the bookstore. It far exceeded my imagination of how awesome it would be. I connected and loved the characters and hoped everything worked out- happily. The strong draw of emotions was what got me the most. I'd be laughing one second, angry another and bawled my eyes out when the twist came. I screamed NOOOO at my iPad and then struggled to read the words on the pages after that. The tears were relentless at the end, made me wish I’d had a very large plate piled high with deserts like Clare. J.L. has an astounding talent in writing and making you feel like you are journeying right along with every character. Not just by their sides but in their shoes. I cannot wait to see what J.L. Berg comes up with next. Never stop writing.

This book is amazing!!! J. L. Berg is a new author, but you would never know. She is extremely talented and definitely an author to keep your eye on in the future! I love that it is written from the point of view of both main characters so you get to see their interactions from both sides. The story line is great, with a little twist that had my heart breaking. What I love most about this story is how easy it was for me to connect with the characters. It was so easy to immerse yourself into the story and get wrapped up in the emotions the characters were feeling. One minute I'm laughing, the next I'm crying and then suddenly I'm angry and hurt with the sudden urge to throw my Nook across the room. For an author to make me feel that intensity and range of emotion is a rare and beautiful thing. J. L. Berg truly has the gift of words and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

The storyline is good but I can't get past the foul language. It's unnecessary and really detracts from the story instead of making it current.

I enjoyed the charachters and the plot but there are some grammar errors and plot inconsistencies that are bothersome.

So many books lately focus only on the romance and relationship aspect of the two main characters. I loved this book. The characters were three dimensional. Each character had their own struggles outside their relationship with each other. The author did an amazing job taking the reader through a variety of emotions. Each character has a back story and you get to know them, so you can relate and really connect with them. I loved that this story was about the characters, not just filler for certain scenes. It was exactly what a book should be a story with a purpose. I am extremely picky about which authors I read, and this is one author I plan to keep reading.

I love a good, emotion-packed romance and it seems I have run into a slew of them lately. Maybe instead of rating books with stars, I should start rating them with tissue boxes because let me tell you, this is at least a 5 Tissue Boxes Book! In a nutshell, Clare is our spectacular single mom heroine. Mom to Maggie, her first husband Ethan, died of (what else?) cancer. He wanted her to go on with her life and prepared her as best he could, complete with a letter in a sealed envelope for "When You're Ready". *light bulb moment* Our hero is none other than player and ladies man, ER Doc Logan. They meet in side ER after Maggie takes a fall in ballet with feelings that alarm Logan. They meet again shortly after that and, well, the romance is on. I won't go into further detail but suffice it to say, after this point is where the tissues come in. ;) Ms. Berg really did a tremendous job of creating characters that seemed real and like people you could relate to. She made them frustrating, silly, frazzled, loving, and kind. She paced the book well, keeping some of the story hidden until the reader is ready to see it. It was an emotional roller coaster of the highest caliber, a first class contemporary romance. I cannot remember the last time I read a book like it. It's humorous... "Being a gentleman is highly overrated." Hot... "Clare, you have noticed I'm a guy, right? Because if not, I can pull this car over right now and make that abundantly clear." Tender and steamy... "I just want you to remember it. All of it. In vivid, technicolor clarity. And that can only be achieved if you're sober. When you and I come together for the first time, I want you to remember every touch," I ran my hand up her arm and down her back, causing her to shiver. "Every moan." And above all, had a Forever-type of Love... "I wanted you to know, because you are the only woman I've ever wanted to share my bed with, or bring home. Clare, you are my home." You absolutely do not want to miss this book! ***5 Tissue Boxes ;)*** **3 Flames** *Note: I received this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. All opinions are my own and no further compensation was received.

The rating is only because of the excessive profanity and sexual descriptions; otherwise, this would have been given a 5 rating. What a shame the author had to revert to using the “F” word in just about every conversation. The story is a good one but the crudeness was not needed as the story line carried the book on its own. The story is about a young widowed mother and her daughter. After losing her husband to cancer she knew she had to continue ‘living’ because she had a little girl who depended on her. When the little girl, Maddie, suffered a concussion due to a fall and was in the ER waiting for a doctor to see her, in walked the doctor. The most handsome, sexy man the mother had ever seen. Maddie took to the mother. The doctor carried a lot of baggage but fate stepped in bringing them to meet once again. It was love at first site but neither was ready to admit it.
