Overview

While My Pretty One Knits (Black Sheep Knitting Series #1) by Anne Canadeo

The Black Sheep Knitters—Maggie, Lucy, Dana, Suzanne, and Phoebe—meet once a week without fail, sharing the varied and colorful skeins of their lives as much as knitting tips, recipes, and small-town gossip, and creating an intricate, durable pattern of friendship. Now a shocking murder has peaceful Plum Harbor, Massachusetts, in knots —and the Black Sheep women must herd together to protect one of their own from a scandalous frame-up.

Maggie Messina, beloved owner of the Black Sheep Knitting Shop, is thrilled to be hosting a workshop for one of her former students, now a celebrity in the knitting world. But the celebration is upstaged when Amanda Goran, the owner of the rival Knitting Nest, is found dead in her shop on the other side of town.

Maggie had reasons to dislike Amanda, a thorn in her side ever since Maggie's shop surpassed Amanda's in popularity. Then again, it wasn't hard to dislike Amanda—the contentious woman, whose marriage was on the rocks, seemed to specialize in causing misery all over town. But the pointed evidence has a detective casting a suspicious eye on Maggie. She may be a whiz at knitting, but can she keep the police from needling her before her shop, her reputation, and her circle of friends become unraveled?

WOW! That was an amazing read. It was very fast paced, thrilling, and I couldn't wait to see what happens! The first in the series, " While my pretty one knits" takes place in a small town that is out of harms way. But when the knitting shop owner gets mysterously murdered all four best friends try to figue out the murderer, while kniiting ofcourse. I am not a big knitter but I really enjoyed the humor and mystery of this book. It wasn't to heavy, but just enough to get you wrapped up in it. I recommend this book to all knitters, as well as someone who just enojys a fun read. This book was so much fun and you feel like you know the characters. If you pick up this book, I guarentee you will love it as much as I did.

Knitting mysteries are the latest "whodunits" to saturate the shelves. It seems every cozy writer wants to try their hand weaving one making the sub-genre blend together in a knot... Enter the stellar Anne Canadeo w/ her exemplary mystery debut While My Pretty One Knits. Delightful. Enchanting. Humorous. Impressive. Witty. Those are just a few adjectives to describe Anne Canadeo's effervescent cozy debut, While My Pretty One Knits. I absolutely adore this series. I couldn't put it down & when I was closing in on the ending I hid it. Yes, I did! I recently moved off the island & moved up to gorgeous northern New York & hid it in my huge house; ). Well, I tried to hide it but the engaging cast of characters whispered for me to hang out w/ them @ the Black Sheep Knitting Shop. When I tried to ignore them they poked me w/ a knitting needle. Ouch! OK, it was more than one knitting needle. Geez, knitters are a crafty bunch ; ). While My Pretty One Knits is a dynamite introduction to an energetic new cozy mystery series. Canadeo's writing flows effortlessly off the page & the enchanting, fun, ingenious cast steals the show. Canadeo knows how to absorb the reader w/ a skillful, fast-paced plot. The characters are well-developed & Canadeo knows how to create a cast of characters you care about. All you need is a cup of hot cocoa overflowing w/ marshmallows, a crackling fire, a throw & you have an impeccable cozy evening (cheese, fruit, wine & crackers may enhance your reading pleasure). Canadeo showcases her sharp writing skills. She is a brilliant new addition to the cozy genre. When I reached page 249 it was bittersweet. Infact, I am in a bit of a diva monster mood (grumpy sourpuss) because I have to wait until December for Knit, Purl, Die. Grrr... Where are those knitting needles when I need them? While My Pretty One Knits is a perfect summer read for all of those scrambling to make the most of summer as it draws to a close but it is also an excellent read to curl up w/ as fall arrives. I really wish I could visit Plum Harbor, Massachusetts & visit all the terrific friends Canadeo vibrantly created. I really want to spend time w/ adorable Tink & Matt -- *sigh*! While My Pretty One Knits was so richly penned it has made me interested in learning to knit. Really! Moi, who can barely lace her kicks. I loved this book so much that I imagine myself as a character visiting the Book Review & the Black Sheep Knitting Shop. Non-knitters will revel in the picturesque surroundings. While My Pretty One Knits is a tightly stitched novel not to be missed! Hurry & grab a copy of While My Pretty One Knits. It's as relaxing as a day @ the shore!

I really wish I could stop by the Black Sheep Knitting Shop in Plum Harbor, Massachusetts! This is a great summer read. The main characters are well thought out and believable. I'm anxious to see how the relationship between Black Sheep Knitter Lucy and the local Vet progress. The story moved right along and the mystery was well thought out. Kept me guessing until the end. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

While My Pretty One Knits is a delightful read, especially for those of us that knit and like mysteries. The setting, Plum Harbor, brings a small town atmosphere, that many of us desire, to life. The main characters have personality and the knitting shop sounds like many that I have been in. Just plain fun with just enough mystery to keep you guessing and waiting for the next in the series.

Maggie owns a knitting Shop called Black Sheep Knitters. With her friends, she has a knitting friendship group that discusses new knitting trends and books on the subject. The group is pleasantly pleased, especially Maggie, that Cara Newhouse, a successful writer of a new knitting book will review her book at a workshop Maggie is planning to have. The publicity is great, but Amanda Goran, owner of a rival knitting shop is jealous and accuses Maggie of selling inferior wool. When a murder takes place in the knitting world everyone in Plum Harbor is shocked. Who would do such a horrible act? This suspenseful mystery has a gentle charm and makes the reader feel she would like to know Maggie and her friends and visit the town of Plum Harbor. After reading this delightful first mystery in a series, readers can hope for many "Maggie" mysteries to follow. Don't miss the "extra attraction" of notes that the author includes at the end of this winning story. Get ready for a great read!

I loved this book. I started by reading the #2 book in the series. When finished, bought the first in the series. Interesting, exciting, dramatic, and a bit of romance. I'll certainly follow this author and read the next books she writes! You don't have to be a knitter to enjoy this new series! Check out second in the series!

Canadeo mingles knitting, friendship, and murder with a deft hand in this first book of her intriguing new mystery series. Sprinkled in are rivalries, romance, and even an animal rescue to round out the assorted happenings in the cozy New England town of Plum Harbor. Though the Black Sheep knitters vary in backgrounds, age, and interests, a shocking murder strengthens the bonds of their friendship, as they all pitch in to unravel the crime that casts suspicion on Maggie, their mentor and owner of the Black Sheep Knitting Shop. Canadeo brings the camaraderie of these women and their growing respect for one another to life with her sharp wit and effortless ability to shape these eccentric characters into likable, unaffected individuals. Knitting tips and techniques abound, as well as instructions for dyeing yarn, which I can't wait to try out. I'm counting my stitches until the next Black Sheep book hits the stands.

I got this book as a summer read for my daughter but ended up lapping it up for myself. Ms. Canadeo perfectly captures the feeling of friendship between women and her writing is easy to read, witty and seemingly effortless. You will not want to miss out on this first book of the Black Sheep Knitting Mystery Series. I will be looking forward to more. My daughter loved it as well and we had fun discussing all of the characters.

Take a spin into the world of knitting in this lively and unpredictable mystery. Bravo to the author. She has created memorable characters of different ages and a warm atmosphere for a knitting club--The Black Sheep Knitters. Doesn't it sound innocent enough to spend your leisure hours knitting and meeting with your friends? But there is a rival knitting store and then a murder. It just so happens that the head of the knitting club becomes a person of interest in the murder. The clues to solving the murder take unexpected turns and when faced with the murderer, it'll be a surprise, I promise. A skillfully constructed mystery, this novel provides not a dull moment as it weaves its story in a small town atmospere with plenty of gossip, recipes, and a romance. A highly enjoyable read.

Anne Canadeo's first Black Sheep Knitting Mystery is a real page-turner, and captivated me with both the mystery and the knitting. Fans of Mary Higgins Clark, Diane Mott Davidson, and Sue Grafton will find this light but well-conceived "who done it" a pleasure to experience. I was also delighted to get some good knitting ideas as well. So grab a copy, head to the beach, your backyard, or your favorite comfy chair, and enjoy! I eagerly await the next Black Sheep book, which, rumor has it, may be out before the end of the year!

I like knitting and I like mysteries, so this was a win-win. I look forward to others in the Black Sheep Knitting Series, if this is any indication of what they'll be like. I did figure out who did it long before it was revealed in the book, but that didn't spoil it for me, it just made realize how much I like mysteries and figuring out 'who done it"!

The lack of good detective work makes me nervous.Even though I had the murderer pegged at the get-go I was conflicted regarding "so much blood" yet no blood on suspect or even culprit after the fact. Always enjoy reading about knitting and friendship, however.
