Who Was Helen Keller? by Gare Thompson, Nancy Harrison

At age two, Helen Keller became deaf and blind. She lived in a world of silence and darkness and she spent the rest of her life struggling to break through it. But with the help of teacher Annie Sullivan, Helen learned to read, write, and do many amazing things. This inspiring illustrated biography is perfect for young middle-grade readers. Gare Thompson wrote a couple of books that were part of a series about different important past figures in history. These books have become very popular and they are very interesting. Another book that he wrote for the series was Who is Eleanor Roosevelt. One of his most famous books is Who was Helen Keller? This is a biography of the woman who, with the assistance of her devoted teacher Annie Sullivan, achieved success and fame despite being blind and deaf. At age two, Helen Keller became deaf and blind. She lived in a world of silence and darkness and she spent the rest of her life struggling to break through it. But with the help of teacher Annie Sullivan, Helen learned to read, write, and do many amazing things. The reading level of the book is fourth grade, first month. The genre of the book is biography. The theme of the book is dedication, courage, and hard work. The book asks the question, ¿Who is Helen Keller?¿ It makes it a very powerful book. I really did cry at the end of the book and it was heartfelt. It tells the hardships of a woman who makes it in life. Helen Keller once said, ¿I can make a difference. I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do.¿ She is an inspiration to me. Thompson, Gare.
