Thirteen-year-old Kirstie Scott lives with her mother and brother at Half Moon Ranch, which her mother built up into a guest ranch after the death of Kirstie's grandfather. While on a Saturday trailride with a group of guests, Charlie, one of their cowhands, asks Kirstie to lead the group into Dead Man's Canyon while he helps the guests cross a tricky stream swollen with melting snow. Following the senses of Lucky, her trusted palomino, Kirstie enters the canyon to find a herd of wild horses trapped in the back. Their leader, a beautiful black stallion, reacts aggressively, and rain begins to pour as Kirstie freezes in an effort to not upset the herd any further. Kirstie is about to turn around and leave the canyon when one of the ranch horses, spooked by her inexperienced rider, races into the canyon and up the trail, causing an avalanche on the weakened ridge. When the dust settles, Kirstie is unharmed thanks to Lucky, but the black stallion is trapped under rocks, badly hurt. Now, trapped with the herd while Charlie goes back to the ranch for help, Kirstie does what she can for the stallion, and she wonders if it will be enough... I loved reading about this resourceful heroine! Her courage and confidence in her own abilities is what really drives the plot. This story should resonate with any girl who loves horses and loves to trust her own instincts.

Kirstie Scott, her mother and her older brother, with the help of a couple of ranch hands, run a small guest ranch in the Colorado foothills. It's a family business, minus Kirstie's father who's out of the picture with a new wife. Leading a string of dudes on ranch horses on a day trip through the hills, a sudden storm triggers a landslide that leave Kirstie and her horse Lucky stranded in a gully with an injured wild stallion. Can Kirstie convince the stallion to let her help him? And will she be able to save the injured animal from the rough rodeo-string horse-seller's plans? The book's a bit thin, and so's the plot. The horse-related details are iffy in spots, as well. At 150 pages there's not much space for error if things aren't tightly written, and unfortunately, there are quite a few rough edges. I found myself wishing for the adventures of Gypsy and Nimblefoot or the plucky heroine of C.W. Anderson's Afraid to Ride. It's not a bad story, just not a great one, either.

This book is soooooooo boring! And the plot (there is none). Plus for a "childrens" book it happens to say a few cuss-words. Just what you want kids to be reading, right?

Read Thymedust's posts at: 'Leaf,' result three, 'Cherry Tree,' Result three..and then Result one of this search. Reply. To them. If you could. Thyme is my Brother, and he seems very upset. In Real life too...<p> The soft golden female illuminated, her pelt softly ebbed with stars. Leafsun's blue gaze fell on Velvetstar, her expression one of disapproval, and worry. "What have you done?" She asked, her voice soft but stern. "What did my Brother do to deserve this? Why did he get replaced?" Leafsun pressed, shaking her head. The Starclan cat sighed. "Velvetstar..Thymedust loved you so much more then you could think. Remember Faithseed? The she-cat that had become friends with Thymedust?" She blinked. "Remember when you felt broken and torn when Thymedust went hunting with her? You thought he loved you? You didn't like that. But your doing exactly that to Thymedust now. Breaking him down and tearing away his spirit. Leaving him broken and hopless." The young warrior rested a starry tail on the Leader's shoulder, "That feeling you felt when Faithseed was around, that feeling of despair and that feeling of being an old mossball? That's what my Brother feels. Like it's out with the old...in with the new. Just..please think about what I've told you. You hurt Thymedust. He is beginning to doubt everything..Starclan...and even if he was ment to be alive.." Leafsun's figure vanished softly, only her scent lingered. ~This is Thyme's Sister, by the way.~

*the dove gray leader slid out of her den and into the pale moonlight. She bounded up to the top of the High Log in a few long strides* "Let al cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the High Log for a Clan Meeting!" *she waited and gazed proudly down as her happy Clan arranged themselves beneath the High Log* "There are a couple things I need to deal with today, but I'll start with the most important. We have a few kits who are ready to become apprentices! Daisykit, Bearkit, Autumnkit, Patchkit, and Banditkit, please step forward! Do you all promise to train hard to learn and respect the Warrior Code?" "I do!" came the chorus of confident replies. "Then I, Whitestar, leader of Horseclan, now rename you Daisypaw, Bearpaw, Autumnpaw, Patchpaw, and Banditpaw! Daisypaw, your mentor will be Blacksoul. Bearpaw, your mentor will be Greenleaf. Autumnpaw, your mentor will be Windwing. Patchpaw, your mentor will be Servaljump. And Banditpaw, your mentor will be me!" *she leapt down from the High Log and padded over to touch noses with Banditpaw.* "You'll do great with me!" she whispered encouragingly. *after all the new mentors and apprentices had greeted eachother, she returned to her perch on the High Log.* "Now to the more... confusing matters. There have been a lot of cats who either quit rping or disappeared. They left their cats behind for others to rp. Our 'Needs to Be Rped' list is way too long, so I have decided to make some changes. The Cats of Horseclan list will be completely wiped, those who haven't been seen in a while will be erased. The Rp list will also be wiped. We will start over the Rp list with new kits and stuff like that. Also, if you think you rp too many cats, you can choose to let one go. I'm not trying to get you to kill your cats, I just want to give you that option. If there are any cats or kits that you don't want to disappear, like if they have sentimental values or if you want to make some prophecy about them, tell me and I'll keep them o the list. Also, the new territory is at 'Mrs. Murphy series' all results. I haven't set up any prey posts yet, but I just wanted to make that clear. For future refrence and stuff. Well, that's all. If anyone has any questions, ask me in a different result. I don't want to take this post down. That's all, thank's for reading! Good night!" ~Informing Whitestar
