OK, I'm no wuss. I dissected a human body myself in med school. I'm a big fan of vampires and Buffy and Wiccan stuff, and have enjoyed other Nancy Holder books. I bravely got through about 600 pages of 'Wicked' with the bad guys killing and human sacrificing and burning women and children. So many human sacrifices to the devil in this book, I can't even count. But when the supposed heroine of this novel drowns the sweet, struggling household cat familiar in the bathtub as a sacrifice to the Goddess of all things, that's when I threw this book in the trash where it belongs. It's one thing (although revolting) when the bad guys do this, but the heroine of the book? Not for teens, unless you have antisocial tendencies and enjoy serial killings of humans and animals. No thanks, I've got enough filth stuck in my head already. This isn't fun to me. The whole point of neo-Goddess stuff is to get away from male God cruelty and mercilessness, but apprently Nancy Holder gets off on this cruelty, and then dedicates this Book of Slaughter to her daughter. Disgusting.

I had no intentions of liking this series when I started reading it, but it definately caught my attention. I had just finished reading the Twilight series and I wanted to read another sci-fi series like that, but not about vampires. This was a great choice for me. If a book doesn't catch my attention in the first few chapters, I'll put it down and never pick it up again. I was captivated from the very first chapter of the series. In the first 2 chapters I had gotten a little confused between the time changes and points of view, but I quickly caught up and couldn't put the books down.

This book was hard for me to get into. Past to present, back and forth. Once I got past the first couple of chapters, I couldn't put it down. The story is very detailed and is thought provoking. There are some very disturbing parts, but I think the writer used it as part of the characters development; decisions, right from wrong, consequences of actions, confusion, helplessness. I am not in any way condoning what the main character does at one point, but I think it helps to explain her struggle and then the consequencces of her actions. This bok is not for everyone. I can definately see that religious issues could cause a great stir. If one reads it as a story I believe they will enjoy the character development and the outcome (consequences for your actions). This book is definately for the older reader (high school and above).

There is not a Barnes & Noble or any other bookstore for that matter within 75 miles of where I live, so while visiting my sister last year I stepped into one. I was looking around for something to go with the time of year(halloween) and saw the set on the counter near the middle of the store. I thought the cover looked great and the price was in my range so I bought them. I have read them twice now. I love the story line and am currently working on my third time reading them. I just wish that the author would make another installment. I would love to see what Holly is doing now, and how Amanda and Nicole are doing.

I feel in love with this book from page one. Nancy's and Debbies writing is excellent you can like litteratly see the surroundings in your head as she is describing what the room looks like. Yeah there are some grammar mistakes but SO WHAT. Also i found it funny when i was reading like it said something about Nicole having dark curls and then it was like 50 pages latter and it said red hair i was like what. But yea probably nancy wrote her with either dark curls or read hair or debbie did. But overall i loved the story i loved the lttile flashbacks that were in the book it was really good and i would read it again, but i got other books to read so i won't.

This is fantastic, it has been a long time since a book has been able to keep my attention and this one has done so. I am so excited to carry on reading all the books and I have even got my husbands attention in reading them as well. For the one anon person who basically is disgusted by this book, I have to say really and truly there are worse things that happen in reality than having a girl drown a cat, so if you are horrified by that I can only imagine how you are when watching the news or hear on the radio of what people do on a daily basis. I again just want to say keep up the great work Nancy & Debbie just wonderful and thank you for bringing my interest in reading back.

This book kept me up in the wee hours of the night reading. It was a great read with both good and evil characters and jaw-dropping scenes. I get the creeps when I think about this series though! The storyline is just so...wow. It was great though and I highly recommend it.

I just started this series and it has sucked me in!!! Right from the beginning you will be pulled in & wondering what else can happen. Holly is a "normal" girl (so she thinks) until her parents & best friend are killed in a tragic accident. Holly has to move to Seattle to live with her Aunt, Uncle and cousins she never knew she had. Then she meets Jer Deveraux who she has a strange instant connection to and she doesn't know why. It bounces back & forth through time so you have to pay attention at first to get the background of all of the characters (after the first few chapters you get it). It is Dark and Edgy and sometimes a little disturbing, but after all it is a book called WICKED and it's about witches. There are gory details and demons and fighting. Overall I love this series so far. I can't tell what is going to happen next and above all, it's ENTERTAINING!

Completely in love with this series. It is the first fiction novel about magic and witches that has ever been passionate and realisitc. There are in depth characters with their own strengths and weakness that creates an episode of thrilling inner and outer conflicts. The begining is slow, but the reader is almost instantly thrown into a bank of struggling relationships and the race for survival begins in this captivating novel. It is not the tradtional love triangle with two amazing men who would do anything for her. The struggle for life and love forces even the best characters to do dark things that will change the story forever. Brilliant! Unfortgettable! Wicked!

I started out reading it because i was running out of time and picked a book on my favorite shelf at random and hoped for the best. When i started reading, i was so glad i picked it and couldn't stop. If you like romance, suspense, mystery, and witches and warlocks, then this your book!

I loved this book and the whole series! I will for sure be reading these again and again. I wish they continued! I have fallen in love with the characters and the story itself! If your planning on reading any book this one should be your first choice!

i read this book, and i was hooked, its very original but i don't think that it will be pleasurable for everybody to read, but absolutely loved it, mostly because, its not predictable, like i don't wanna spoil anything but the end of witch got me screaming for me, and to be honest, it surpassed all my expectations, especially whit the whole story between isabeau and jean, but i have to warn you: you must read carefully the whole book because it is set in many time periods which was kind of confusing at first. one thing i didn't like about the book tough was the constant dead people in it, they killed practically anybody if they didn't know what to do with him later in the book, but other than that, the story is very captivating and everything seems very real.

When I started reading these books I focused on what was going on in the present the most, BIG MISTAKE. I thought the first few "flash backs" (not to give anything away) were just explaining current things but that storyline gets just as confusing as the other going on in the present day. Pay close attention to BOTH sets of stories or you'll start to go "what?" near the end!!!

To be completely honest, witches arent my thing, but this series surprised me in how good it is! I was looking for a book to read this summer and i bought this one out of chance to see if i liked it. It was really good and i love Nancy Holder and how she combines her series. Its not my favorite book but its one that i would definately recommend to anyone. I love how Holly just changes out of no where, i thought as always that the main character is always the good little girl who is in love and is the most powerful one and gets whatever she wants in the end. However Holly is different and that is exactly what i expect in a good book-something different.

A very good book. The adventure is great, the authers deffinatly work well together. I like the ties with the Pagan religion which gave it some historical backround, even more so with the flash backs to the ancestors of both the Deveroux and Cahors. With these flash backs you get history and the reason of some of the things going on in the feud between the families.

Wicked is a supernatural story about witches and warlocks in our ordinary society. Starring in the story is orphan Holly Cathers, who loses her parents and best friend in a tragic boat accident and comes to live with her aunt and uncle and her fraternal twin cousins in Seattle. Also living in Seattle is the Deveraux family, who are wizards and well aware of their magic and their history. This family has been in constant war with the Cathers family since the middle ages, and has been picking off members of the Cathers family for years since then. Holly and her cousins don¿t know any of this, but if they¿re to live, they¿re going to learn about it and fast. It¿s a story of mystery, lots of murder attempts, action, and a blend of the past and the present histories of the two families and how they¿re intertwined.Wicked is all about conflicted heroes and their battles against dark forces. The main character Holly is probably the most pronounced hero, followed by Jer Deveraux the supporting character. Holly starts off as a young, naïve character who only wants to be good, but in growing stronger and with so much pressure on her, she¿s beginning to make sacrifices that are toeing the line between good and bad. She constantly has to fight for those she cares about, and is always having to decide just how far she¿s going to go to protect those things. Jer, however, started off as a conflicted hero from the dark side, and he knows what he¿s going to do to be good again. He¿s luckier, since he knows his limits and what to avoid where Holly doesn¿t, but he also has less protection than Holly does from being used by darkness. Almost all the characters in this novel are in some way struggling to be heroes and to do the right thing, and their journeys are what defines them from supporting heroes to leading ones.I liked the novel, because it was an interesting enough story, though probably more meant for teenagers from the ages of 11-15. It wasn¿t terribly challenging, so don¿t read this if you like a story where you have to think hard to solve the main plotline. However, things did move at a pretty quick rate, and there are plot twists to keep older readers a bit more entertained. I think this novel is great for the right age group. For the rising teenagers, this book should be read by them. For the older teenagers 16-18, they can read this book but probably won¿t get as much enjoyment out of it. For anyone older, I definitely don¿t see them enjoying this book. For my senior class, I¿d say we shouldn¿t read it, since this book isn¿t really meant to entertain us.

This is an amazing series about witches and warlocks and all types of magic and romance. It's set in Seattle, which is a very rainy, very magic city. I loved these books, and i couldn't believe it when they ended so abruptly, and they stopped writing them a while ago so i don't think they're going to continue.

This is a double book, so I'm reviewing the two separately. Witch: Holly's life is forever altered when her parents and best friend die in a freak rafting accident. Sent to live with her aunt and twin cousins, Holly soon meets the handsome bad boy, Jer Devereaux, and discovers she and her cousins are actually witches. Although I felt that the last quarter of the book was a little rushed, I enjoyed this story and can't wait to read the next installment. Curse: Curse continues the story of Holly Cathers and her witch cousins as they battle the Devereaux coven. Witch ended with Holly believing her boyfriend, Jer, had died. Curse continues the story with Holly, Amanda, and Nicole becoming stronger and adding people to their coven. Although I did like the story, there were portions that were disturbing, so I would caution younger readers or those easily triggered to tread carefully. Overall, this books helps lay the foundation for the ultimate showdown to come.
