[I received this book free from the publisher through NetGalley. I thank them for their generousity. In exchange, I was simply asked to write an honest review, and post it. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising] “There’s been a shooting. An ambush.” So begins this fourth mystery in the Zoe Chambers' series. Somebody local is taking shots at the rescue crews. Question is who....and why? Zoe's dealing with not having a home, not having time for her horse, not having time for her boarding clients' horses, her friendships, her truck and....her growing attachment to Pete, the sherriff in her small town. Pete's dealing with his own set of issues: who is killing his fellow workers? Better yet....why? And why can't he and Zoe stop charging around each other and acknowledge the obvious? Through a series of "911" killings, Pete and the crew start putting the extremely diverse and divergent pieces of this puzzle together in a continuation of this sucessfully written series by Dashofy. Familar, and not so familiar characters become people you worry about; friends if you will, as supportive of each other, warts and all, as we all dream our own cluster of people is. A fast read that will leave you wanting more.

I loved this book. This is the first book in the Zoe Chambers Mystery series and I am definitely going back to read the first three. This can be read as a stand alone, as I had no problem following the story, but previous situations were mentioned that I was not sure about. Zoe Chambers is a paramedic who has some training with guns and police procedures as well as being the Deputy Coroner. She is dating Police Chief Pete Adams in rural Monongahela County. When emergency personnel are being set up and shot at, the police investigate and accompany the EMS persons on suspicious calls. Zoe works with Pete to question and investigate as one of her colleagues has been killed by this madman. Looking for an ATV that fits the tire tracks found, someone who is a sharpshooter and has a specific kind of rifle is harder than you would think when everyone in the area has an ATV, a rifle for hunting and are all pretty good shots. There are many, many, suspects. This is not a typical cozy mystery. It has many cozy elements, but the main one missing is that this is not an amateur sleuth investigating and solving the crime. This protagonist, Zoe, is smart, is a survivor and is a trusted colleague to all. This book was hard to put down. The story flowed smoothly with just the right amount of clues and red herrings spread throughout. This plot was very realistic and I was drawn in quickly. I felt nervous and scared for the characters as the story progressed, worried whether they would be shot at. I had not idea who the actual culprit was, but when it was revealed, it all made sense. I recommend this one to mystery lovers as well as cozy mystery lovers.

The ongoing tale of Pete and Zoe holds interest and the trail of murders is truly weird. I Enjoy the series. Keep it up.

Annette Dashofy's wonderful WITH A VENGEANCE was the perfect respite from the ice storms outside. I'm not sure how it dropped from my radar when it was published in May, but perhaps it was waiting until I really needed it, as I used to save up the CAT WHO mysteries until dire need. Gripping, with twisty plot and characters to care about and who care about each other . . . television stayed off, to read, read, read, sleep because eyes wouldn't stay open, then up to read to beautiful conclusion. Aaah! Grateful for the careful writing that creates such satisfying reading.

Title: With A Vengeance - Zoe Chambers Mystery 4 Author: Annette Dashofy Published: 5-3-2016 Publisher: Henery Press Pages: 272 Genre: Mystery, Thrillers & Suspense Sub Genre: Police Procedurals; Amateur Sleuth; Cozy Mystery ISBN: 9781635110173 ASIN: B01BGZOFSU Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley My Rating: 4 1/2 Stars . Zoe Chambers is a paramedic and part time deputy coroner for Monongahela County and still recuperating from a devastating barn fire. She and her boyfriend Pete Adams, Police Chief of Vance Township, are at a firearms training session when Pete is notified that the first responders to an overturned ATV have been ambushed. Pete and Zoe rush to the scene. Then it happens again next night when firefighters respond to a fire and two more are shot. The police are trying to protect the responders and catch a killer. Zoe, as deputy coroner is afraid which friend will show up on her table next. Zoe will do whatever is necessary to protect her friends and co-workers. Pete is willing to do anything to protect Zoe. Can they find the killer before one of them is the next target of a killer? This is Annette Dashofy's fourth book of the Zoe Chamber's Mystery series, but has enough background material to be read as a stand-alone without boring and bogging down the reader. The characters have become friends for me they are so believable. you will be pulled into the story from the moment you open the book. The story itself could be pulled from today's headlines. Ms. Dashofy has woven the unthinkable into her story with an authenticity that will make your blood run cold that such evil could exist in our world. Lord knows I admire anyone who wears an emergency service uniform today because they never know when a demented mind ma decide to target them just because of their job. This is a story you will not be able to put down. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

This is my first introduction to Annette Dareofy and the Zoe Chambers series and WOW, what an introduction! This book hits you right from the start and the action doesn't let up until the very last page. To say it was a page-turner is an understatement! Even though this is the fourth book in the series you can read it as a stand-alone. There was enough backstory and character description to be able to embrace the series and not get lost. For those who have read the previous three, there is no feeling like you are rereading the previous books in the series, which I know I appreciate in any series! However, having said that, there were plenty of little nuggets sprinkled throughout the story that got me hooked and wanting to know everything that happened in the first three books (so you know where my next stop will be, that's right, I will be one-clicking those three books as soon as I am done with this post!) Like I said, this book had me right from the start! I read it quickly and didn't want to put it down! The plot itself is very well written and well developed and had me right on the edge of my seat. I was a nervous wreck through most of the story and felt like I was living it right with the characters. This story was part cozy mystery and part thriller and the ending had a twist I didn't see coming. I loved that I had no idea the whodunit of the book and I was kept guessing and re-guessing right up until the end. Characters, let's just say the characters in this book are an awesome bunch! I love that Zoe is a smart cookie and didn't feel like she had to solve this very dangerous mystery all by herself, somehow that made the story much more believable for me. Overall, With a Vengeance was a fast-paced read packed with action and enough gooey scenes between Zoe and Pete that I simply can't wait for the next book in the series to be released!

This is a great book; this is the fourth book in the A Zoe Chambers Mystery series by Annette Dashofy. This book can be read as a standalone, but if you read this one you will want to go back and read the others. Zoe Chambers is a paramedic with the rural Monongahela County’s EMS. They are used to wading into trouble to rescue the sick and injured, but when someone starts staging accident scenes and gunning down the first responders, she is determined to find the person responsible. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

"With A Vengeance" by Annette Dashofy is the fourth book in the Zoe Chambers mystery series. The book comes out on May 3, 2016. Zoe Chambers is our main character. She's a paramedic and the deputy coroner for the small town in which she lives. One evening a terrible call comes in to dispatch. The first responders to an overturned ATV have been shot. This starts a tense and angst ridden mystery about who would want to kill first responders. Everyone Zoe works with is in danger and now with the police trying to protect the first responders, Zoe's boyfriend, the sheriff, is also in danger of being shot. Figuring out whether this is about specific people being targeted or just a psycho shooting at any first responders becomes the only way of trying to catch a killer. **SPOILER ALERT** To explain my low rating on this book I have to break my own rule about giving out details of the book. I rarely do this but it seems unfair not to explain my thinking. This was such a different experience for me as I read through this mystery. It started out as a five out of five, reading it felt like being on a freight train that was out of control (in a good way). But then as I got to the ninety percent mark the author broke an unwritten rule. The rule is that it's unfair to make the killer some character that's not been introduced before. It makes no sense to make a character who has not been fleshed out by the author, the killer in the book. If the author has given no real details that lets the reader wonder if they could be the killer ,then how is that fair? How is it even possible for the reader to figure out who done it? And isn't that the point of any good mystery? There were two other small details that I would have overlooked if the author had played fair with the "Who Done It" game. The first detail was that Zoe's best friend has a meltdown, yelling at Zoe for the stupidest thing even when she knows Zoe's life is in eminent danger every night and sleep has been unattainable because of the stress of the situation. There are times when one should hold one's tongue and wait for a better time to have a hissy fit, eminent death would be one of them. The second detail was when Zoe had the opportunity to shoot the killer, she said "Stop or I'll shoot", giving the killer time to duck and cover, using Zoe's boyfriend as said cover. If you have the training to shoot a gun, which Zoe does and a killer is threatening every life around you, why would you warn him that you're gonna stop his rampage? JUST SHOOT HIM for god's sake!! This kind of thing totally ticks me off as a reader. For these reasons I'm forced to give this book a three. Unfortunately, I enjoyed most of this book. It was fast paced and I loved how the author created tension so the reader certainly didn't get bored. BUT, to break the "Who Done It" rule and then to have such stupid details thrown in that tick off the reader, "With A Vengeance" lost two stars very quickly. I recommend this author generally, I had read a previous Zoe Chambers mystery and enjoyed it much more than I did this one. If I were you, I'd start at number one in this series and when you get to this one, know that the story will move the general plot forward, you just might not like it as much as the previous three.

Annette Dashofy has written another great story with Zoe Chambers in the center. Zoe is very believable, the way I hope that all EMTs are. In a rural setting we are allowed into the lives of the townsfolk. More please, Ms. Dashofy, more. FTC Full Disclosure - A copy of this book was sent to me by the publisher in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review.

This was a great little cozy. Fast paced and really hard to put down. Someone is killing the first responders or are they going after certain people? With a whole slew of suspects, many of them making great contenders, I jumped back and forth with with my consensus. The writing was great, the characters were great, although I think I agree with some of the characters that Pete and Zoe should really should just figure it out and get it over with. There was a little too much of the high school googly eye stuff. Maybe less of that and more suspense would have worked better for me. Although, there were no explicit sex scenes for those who care, it was a little too much for me. Don't let it stop you from reading the book though. The mystery and suspense scenes were very well done. Thanks to Henry Press and Net Galley for allowing me to read and review yet another of your great authors and books.
