My intention with this ebook, Women and Adversity, Honoring 23 Black Women, is to show how Black women through America's history up to this very day have faced and overcome obstacles. I welcome all women, especially Black girls and young Black women, to look at these examples of strong Black women who forged ahead and cleared the path, and are still clearing the path, for those coming after them. These brief sketches are not biographies and do not include all pertinent facts. They cover a meager sampling of admirable Black women, but they are examples of what my goal is: motivate readers to learn more about these women and to achieve their own goals no matter how challenging they seem.
