Zip It: The Keep It Shut 40-Day Challenge by Karen Ehman

Zip It empowers readers to put into action the advice and commands of Scripture concerning the tongue. The New York Times bestselling book Keep It Shut covered many topics, including anger, truth-telling, people-pleasing, our digital tongues online, and gossip. Because there are more than 3,500 verses in the Bible that relate to our words and our silence, Keep It Shut only scratched the surface of these issues. Karen Ehman now takes a deeper look and offers practical how-to’s that will inspire you use your words to build, to bless, to encourage, and to praise.

Each of the forty interactive entries includes a Scripture verse focus for the day, a story or teaching point, and reflection questions with space for readers to write their answers and thoughts. Each entry ends with both a challenge that will help you carry out the directive in the verse and a prayer prompt. Rather than a traditional devotional, the entries in Zip It build upon each other, equipping you with new habits in how to, or not to, use words.

Zip It The Keep It Shut 40-Day Challenge By: Karen Ehman I love the cover the lips with the zipper over them. We were discussing this in one of my Bible classes so I though wow I need this book it goes along with my class I’m in. Each time I am upset I try to watch my mouth as words can either kill or give life. I try not to say anything that would hurt anyone or make them feel unworthy. So I knew I had to get this book to read and do the 40 day challenge. Hurting someone you love dearly could damage your relationship severely and you may never gain their trust again. Karen talks about two type’s prayer closets and a heart closet. This sounds like a good way to have prayers into two closets. There are prayers after each chapter. Believe me I needed this book I have opened my mouth and said something that totally broke the heart of someone I loved very much. Had I zipped my lips no one would have gotten hurt and the problem would have been resolved with any one getting hurt. So this is a book I recommend highly if you have a habit of opening your mouth when you should have thought about it first. Happy zipping it. I received this book from book look bloggers free for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review just an honest one. The opinions I have expressed are entirely my own and no one else’s. 5 Stars ISBN 978-0-310-34587-9

The Zip It: Keep It Shut 40-day Challenge in Karen Ehman's follow-up devotional book is CONVICTING, and I haven't even completed all 40 days!! It doesn't matter if you didn't read the original bestseller book Keep It Shut, you can still do this challenge. How it works is every day you read a Bible passage, followed by some of Karen's thoughts on how it applies to taming the tongue. Then she gives us a couple of takeaways followed by a "Lesson for the Lips." These lessons sometimes include reflective questions, and the book provides a small space for writing some notes. Lastly, Karen provides a model prayer we can use to conclude our devotional.   I hesitate to use the word devotional to describe this book, although technically I guess that's how it would be categorized. But don't think of this as sitting quietly and reflecting, eyes closed, meditating, etc. although you COULD certainly do that with this book. Instead, think of this as what it is - A CHALLENGE! If you are competitive like I am, you will take to this instantly. Each lesson builds on the previous one, so in some ways, it becomes a little bit harder each day, which I love! I use this first thing in the morning, to kind of get me pumped up for the day, make an action plan, and try to improve myself in a way that aligns my behavior - and my speech - with Scripture.   I'm telling you, you will love this book! It's compact, so you can carry it around with you if you need to refocus half-way through the day and remember what you are aiming for. But most importantly this challenge will help you to speak wisely, whether it's talking or texting, and use your words for godly purposes; to praise and encourage others and avoid saying something you will regret. Take the Challenge with me! I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through HarperCollins Christian Publishing. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review.

The book Zip It, the keep it shut 40-day challenge by Karen Ehman is a great daily devotional to help get your words and thoughts better under control. I really like that this book is on the more practical side of how to actually practice the habit of speaking thoughtful words. Forty day is a good stretch of time to really keep this in the front of your mind and the way the book progresses is really good. I like that the daily readings aren't super long so I can fit them into my busy schedule. I give this book 5 stars and recommend it! *I was given this book by BookLookBloggers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*

Some days I can totally understand where James was coming from when he wrote about the tongue in the Bible. Some days it can just be a challenge to watch what I say even though I have a heart to encourage others. Karen Ehman has a new 40 day devotional book called Zip It to help us consider how to choose our words more carefully whether we are speaking, typing, or texting. Each of the 40 daily devotions in Zip It contain a Bible verse, a short reading with a story to relate to the verse for the day, a section called Today's Takeaways which sums up the main points to remember from the reading, a Lesson for the Lips which offers some questions and thoughts to help you think about how to do the day's reading in your life, and a prayer for the day in conclusion. Each day's reading gives you something to think about, something to do and a heart connection with God in the prayer for the day. I previously read Ehman's book, Keep It Shut and found it to be helpful in thinking about what I say and how our words impact others. I especially like that Zip It continues her thoughts in this follow-up book and helps us create a new habit in our speaking and writing of words by focusing on creating new habits for 40 days. If you want to change your words to those that build up and bless others, then I recommend this devotional as a way to change your habits for the long term. I give it 5 stars out of 5 because I believe it can do that if you go through the book daily. I received Zip It from Zondervan. I was not required to write a positive review in exchange for this book.

Karen Ehman's latest book is a great way to learn how to control our tongues. In today's world of Social Media where we are kind of 'anonymous' those words we type on FB, Insta, Twitter, etc can still sting. This is a perfect 40-day devotional for the upcoming Lenten Season!

This 40-day challenge is just what I need to apply what Karen encourages all women to do: align our words with God’s holy Word. Her New York Times bestseller Keep It Shut was such a life changer for me and after only reading a few days of Zip It, I can’t wait to share it with all my friends. It’s 242 pages of wisdom tucked into a precious little book perfect for gift giving!
