Between the Lightning and the Thunder: What Would It Take for You to See Your Brother as God?

Why are those closest to you the last to believe?

In this fictional account, James both looks up to and is perplexed and annoyed by his older brother, Jesus. Throughout his childhood, James witnesses amazing things but wonders why Jesus can't just follow the rules like the rest of them. Why does Mama indulge him, especially after he begins leading that group of religious malcontents?

After Jesus is arrested and crucified, James stands at the foot of the cross in disbelief. In a moment of panic and regret, he flees and is thrown into a whirlwind of fear and confusion. As darkness descends on the city and lightning illuminates the heavens, James maneuvers through the chaos of Jerusalem and the Passover celebration. A mosaic of faces from the past reminds James of God's love and grace―and the role Jesus played in getting them there. As James flees from doubt and uncertainty, could he be running into Jesus's waiting arms?

About the Author

An award-winning author, speaker, and pastor, B.F. Randall graduated from the University of San Francisco, Global University (ICI), Berean Institute, and attended Golden Gate Theological Seminary. Randall was licensed and ordained by the Evangelical Church Alliance in 1984. Following his service in the US Army and a tour in Vietnam, he served a decade as a Police Officer in the San Francisco Bay Area, and four years as the Assistant Solano County Recorder. Randall has served as a volunteer Chaplain at San Quentin State Prison, and as Police Chaplin, receiving training as a hostage and critical incident negotiator. His pastoral ministry began as the Administrator and Singles Pastor of a large Northern California Assembly of God church, and later he founded and pastored New Hope Christian Fellowship, a non-denominational, evangelical church in the Sacramento Valley for seventeen years.

Ben's ministry includes speaking at numerous churches, conferences, seminars, and retreats, as well as global and national missions. He is also on the Board of Directors of "The Father's House" in Leesburg, Florida, and on the Board of Directors of "Follow the Need International Inc." a global outreach.

He has produced and hosted a weekly radio show reaching the greater Francisco Bay Area, and has written editorials, articles, discourses, and authored plays, vignettes, and skits. Ben's dramatic monologue of the Book of James brings the Scriptures to life as he performs "A Man Called James." His work and experience have equipped him with a unique insight of human conflict and divine intervention that is clearly echoed in his writings.
