When Derrick Storm needed to leave the CIA, he couldn't just retire. He had to fake his own death. So when his former boss calls in an old favor that will bring Storm out of early retirement and back to Washington to investigate a high-profile kidnapping, he knows there must be more at stake than the life of a Senator's son. Working alongside, but not exactly with, bombshell FBI investigator April Showers, Storm must make sense of a confusing flurry of ransom notes and a complicated web of personal relationships and international politics. He'll get to the bottom of the kidnapping, but the storm is still brewing...

Listen, don't leave bad reviews because you just looked at the cover and not the listing. The listing actually says "A Derrick Storm Short". Scrolling down, it also says the size of the file and how many pages it is. Lastly, you know a new release novel isn't going to cost $1.99. So try reviewing THE CONTENT of the book and not that you feel cheated because you assumed some things. That said, this is not the best writing in the world, but I've enjoyed all the Nikki Heat books and I'm looking forward to this new series.

All these reviews are talking about how they got gypped, and complain about this being short. If they had done their research before buying, they would have seen that these would be NOVELLAS. Not full length books.
I knew this and still paid. And it was worth it, because I am a true Richard Castle and Castle on ABC fan. Also it was worth it because of Derrick. This novella was good! Really good, and I cannot wait for Raging Storm. Oh, and Frozen Heat. :)

It started out as an interesting story. Then seventy-five pages ending with the statement "To be continued in 'A Raging Storm' available in July 2012." Very disappointing.

This is just the first part of a larger book that isn't out yet. Very unfair to not be up front about that AND to sell it without an ending. It SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE! Also it needs proofreading.

I paid for a book. Not a short story advertising the release of another book!!! I feel cheated by Barns and Noble and very dissapointed. At this time I am not sure that I want to continue doing business here. Think I will sell my new nook and buy a KINDLE FIRE. So far Amazon has never ripped me off like the purchase of this book did.

This is part one of a trilogy. People seem upset they paid 1.99 for a 80 somepage story. Well in my day mysteries and adventure books ran no more than 110 pages. Especially serialized books.
The story is great, you get into the characters, and in the end part one is soved and sets up book 2 which came out this week. The same people that brought us Nikki Heat and Castle bring you Derrick Storm with the same passion.
Read it for yourself. Know it is part one of three and it is 1.99 that is not a bad deal for a great story.

Like so many of these ratings, I feel cheated. Maybe I should have read ALL the reviews, but little did I know they would actually try to get us to buy ANOTHER BOOK! No thanks!! Was this actually Barnes & Noble pulling this cheap trick??

I wont say that i was ripped off, however, being a new nook user and a big castle fan, i was excited to get this book for such a bargain. I didnt see where it listed the book at 84 pages and if it were truly just a short story, i probably wouldnt be so upset. However, this is a PREVIEW not a novella and last i checked book previews were free. Very disappointed.

When I got to the most interesting part, guess what? Continued in a book due out in July, 2012!!!. Nowhere in the product discription did I see any mention that is not a complete story. I expected it to be a complete short story, not continued in an as yet unpublished novel! And I was charged $1.99 for it. Should have been free since it is just a "come on" so that I will purchase the novel. Well, I have no inteniton of purchasing the novel after this--I will just have to be satisfied with not knowing how it all turns out!

The potential for this series is in front of you. It is disappointing that it was not really a short story on its on. The premise
showed a lot of promise, but then you are left hanging. The book should have been published complete at one time.
I am waiting for the balance of the story.

I am one of the people miffed because I didn't feel it was "clear" that this is not a complete story, but merely a tease of the book yet to be published.
I strongly feel that I should be able to trust a company the size of B&N not to use slight of hand in their marketing. As far as "doing more research"....it shouldn't be hidden in the fine print, it should say it's a teaser in the title of the listing. When I am shopping on B&N, especially if I am on a small netbook or my phone, and often times on my Nook itself, these little secrets tucked away in the listing are not readily available, and furthermore, any marketing director that feels the need to hide such information obviously knows that they are being purposefully misleading.
It left a bad taste in my mouth to purchase any other Richard Castle books. I know I am just one person, and no one at B&N will give a flying fig if I buy the book or not, but I feel comfortable saying, I'm not alone in my opinion.

Seriously, April Showers? Totally ridiculous. Makes the book untenable no matter how good a story it could have bern. Very disappointing.
