One of the (many) reasons I like reviewing romance novels is that I don't have to worry about spoiling the ending. We all know what the ending will be-must be or it wouldn't be a romance. Indeed, we know that Almost a Bride will end with impulsive Matty Brennan marrying steady Dave Currick. In fact, I knew that after reading the first 35 words-and I knew, to boot, that Matty would wind up saving her beloved Flying W Ranch.
Right now, I have to say I loved the story, lest my opening paragraph loses readers. That paragraph is true, but it might make Patricia McLinn's novel sound ... But, no, anything but that. You see, what counts in a romance is the journey, not the destination. And what a journey this was, with surprising twists and turns in every chapter!
I love twists-which is fortunate, because Almost a Bride almost turned me into a Bavarian pretzel. To begin with, Matty and Dave get married to begin with-in Chapter 2, three days after meeting for the first time in six years.
Well, that's not exactly true-it's a half twist. Dave marries Mattie, but Mattie isn't really married to Dave. She won't really marry him because he loves her too much?
So maybe Dave needs a knock on the head so he won't love Mattie excessively. There's nothing sure in Almost a Bride until almost the end. You never know.
But in the end, she might marry her husband for real. Her husband? You know, that guy she has the irresistible hots for.
There's much more to tell about this wonderful, wacky, sexy couple, but I'm not giving any more away. I will tell you that on every other page, these two lovable people put each other through the romance wringer and turn the crank. So, if you love to laugh; love to cry; or love to laugh and cry at the same time, then you'll definitely want to read Almost a Bride.

The lawyer suggests selling some of the property, but being the last of her family, she refuses to sell out her ancestors. Instead, Matty decides to sell out herself by offering to marry Dave Currick so she can receive a financial grant. Dave and Matty negotiate, but in reality, he is pleased she turned to him.
At their wedding, Dave kisses Matty in such a way that she can hardly breath. She realizes she still loves the man who dumped her six years ago and believes he loves her too. So why did he drop her the first time around and why is he agreeing to marry her now?
ALMOST A BRIDE is a fun to read ranch romance that stars two lively characters. The story line may follow sub-genre guidelines, but it retains freshness due to the interrelationship between Matty and Dave. Be on the lookout ¿s next tale in ¿The Wyoming Wildfire¿ series, MATCH MADE IN WYOMING.
Harriet Klausner

Not at all what I would normally read, and even less purchase! The first book I read from this author was a Free Friday Book... and I liked the fresh, easy reading, relaxing book... This "romantic novel" was so new for me,I expected a soggy, bland, and boring book ! Well I was wrong!
The freshness of the author touched me, and I was so compelled that I had to purchase the other books and read them all ! Sometimes you have to change your habits..
Nicely written, even if you can anticipate the story. The personages are so sympathetic, that you really want to know what happens next, and stops you to put the book down.
THANKS B & N... Thanks to PATRICIA McLINN!

I loved this story and would like to read more works by this author. This is the first book that I have given 5 stars. I was happy it was free also. Although some of the actions of the main characters were silly, it was believable because human nature is often silly. I enjoyed the story line and highly recommend this to other readers.

For a free book, this kept my attention and was a fairly long story. Its a mix of western with romance which is every country girls dream. There are a lot of twists and turns in the book and you find yourself getting lost in the story. If you're looking for something to read that's lighthearted and will keep you interested I would highly recommend this book.

How do past loves grow beyond hurt and pain? By opening your heart again to trust and love. Matty and Dave needed to grow up and listen, really listen to each other. Things can grow in the darndest places. Fun story of reaquainting themselves and needing a push from family and friends. On to book 2
