Overview

The New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled books returns with the third standalone romance in the Legal Briefs series, a collection of sexy novels about first crushes, second chances, and the final verdict of the heart.

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate—and prized—parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins.

When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue–worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.

But she’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore—she’s a Washington, DC, prosecutor with a long winning streak. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case, and Kennedy thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.

But things aren’t exactly working out the way she planned. Brent has his sights set on Kennedy, and every fiery exchange only makes him want her more—and makes her wonder if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. In the end, they may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.

I love Brent! He is perfect for me. Kennedy should just step aside and let me have him. ;) Seriously, Brent is one of my top book boyfriends, and Kennedy is definitely the only girl for him. Brent has always had money, as in super rich, so it was surprising for him to become a defense attorney. To many, becoming a lawyer would be a lucrative job, but he already has more many than he could ever make working; so, he's in it because it's his calling. His money and strong work ethic aren't even his best features in my eyes. His sense of humor is what gets me. He's a comic book nerd and a total goof ball. *Swooning* Oh, and he’s hot of course. ;) Kennedy and Brent grew up together. They were two peas in a pod for years. She was there during his rehabilitation from the accident that caused the partial loss of his leg. He was there during her awkwardness, braces and glasses. As happens sometimes, other people got in the way. Years later, they find themselves on opposing sides of a case. Kennedy is a tiger. She goes after what she wants with gusto. She's been knocked down a few times in life so she's Ms. Tough-As-Nails Dragon Lady compared to his Mr. Charming Clown. This story has a good bit of action, laughs, sexiness and heart. It's a story of best friends turned enemies to lovers. And if you enjoyed the other characters, you'll be happy to know that you get regular updates on how they're all doing. The epilogue is beautiful—I loved the whole book really. Yes, I definitely recommend reading.

I’ve been enjoying this series SO MUCH, and thankfully this one wasn’t any different. Between the hilarious banter between these characters and the overwhelming swoons, this is a series that has remained as one of my very favorites. I have to say I really loved (and kinda hated at times too) Brent! He was super entertaining and HAWT!! Of course during the flashback scenes I couldn’t help but hate on him a bit. He was really pretty terrible to Kennedy, and I honestly wanted to scold her as well for putting up with his B.S.!! Kennedy was an easy character to route for. She was feisty and fun and definitely didn’t give into Brent’s advances easily. She made him work for it… and work for it he did!! The chemistry between these two was undeniable. I love romances like this were you can’t help but fall of these two, their relationship, and long for their happily ever after. Another fantastic addition to this amazing series! Time for book 4! (Thanks to Gallery Books for the review copy!)

Loved the whole series.

Loved loved loved this book!... One thing though, maybe you were just trying to make Brent more of an 'everyman' and having a flaw, but the whole (sorry no pun intended) leg story line was extremely distracting. If it wasn't for this, I would have been dying to give it a 5 star rating. Great book though!

This was as good if not better than the first two...and I appreciated that the male hero had a disability that only seemed to make him more real. Well written piece!

Reviewed by Francesca and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog I have had a most definitely not common response to this series. I was not a fan of book 1 but then book 2, thank God I picked up, because it was adorably cute and I really liked it. So I went into this one with hopes of enjoying it just as much as SUSTAINED. But it wasn’t quite the case. The biggest thing for me here was the characters. I love the style I’ve come to expect from Ms. Chase of having the hero be the narrator. It’s a fun aspect of this book because Brent is quite spoiled and he’s always gotten what he wants. I loved seeing him shaken up at times and enthralled at others. But I just didn’t care enough about him. He never made my heart skip a beat or want to swoon like I would want from a hero. He was just there and ok. Granted, he was funny and at times endearing. Then we have the heroine. Kennedy was probably my biggest issue here because, although I love a feisty heroine, I found her bitchy. Too bitchy. Too much all the time. It felt like touching a prickly beast sometimes. And I get her backstory and why she is the way she is, but it sort of makes me think that what happened to her made her turn into a bully. And she spends a big portion of the book there. So I wasn’t her biggest fan. The setup of this story though? I love. It’s a sweet second chance romance about childhood best friends! Kennedy and Brent used to be neighbors growing up. Both rich. Both spoiled. Both with family expectations of what their lives should be. At that time, that even included the two of them getting married when they grew up. She wasn’t a popular girl in school, but Brent was still attracted to her. Then things had a turn for the worst and Kennedy went away. It’s been all these years since the last time they saw each other. Now they’re both successful lawyers and they’re facing each other on a case. While there are some good moments in this book, it was just ok for me. Entertaining for sure because the humor is there. And sexy a bit too. But I was expecting more.

Brent and Kennedy have a past together. Will Kennedy be able to get over the wrongs done to her or will she make him pay? Brent is a wonderful character. I love his wit and his charming self!! I fell in love with him in the first paragraph. Kennedy is a tough, hot chick with a soft side which comes out in the end. These two heat up the story and keep the reader very well entertained….in more ways than one!! I laughed and nearly fell off my chair in several places during this read. Brent has a personality like no other. He kept me in stitches. He also has a tender heart. These traits absolutely make his character irresistible. I am so hooked on this series. I have only read books in this series and I must expand. This author has several series I must investigate. I received this novel from Simon and Schuster as XOXPERT.

I have been anxiously awaiting Brent's book ever since finishing Sustained, so I was eager to dive right in once I got my hands on it. I will go ahead and tell you that I devoured this book in one sitting, which has become a rarity for me lately. I could not get enough of Brent and Kennedy and their awesome banter. I am such a sucker for second chance romances, so this worked so well for me. And the extended epilogue? Sheer perfection. I teared up and just felt so overwhelmed with emotion because it was EXACTLY the ending I was looking for. Brent is the laid back one of the group and is all about living life to the fullest and enjoying himself. He has worked hard to make a name for himself and he doesn't depend on his parents or their money to help him get by. I love that he isn't too proud to see a therapist and that he genuinely takes his advice to heart. Not many guys would be willing to do that and talk out their issues with someone else, so Brent instantly earned points for being so self-assured. He's confident, but he doesn't come across as a jerk either. He was a great protagonist and I loved being inside his head. When Kennedy Randolph waltzes back into his life, Brent is pretty stunned. He has always cared for the girl next door, but now she's an absolute knockout. I loved her sass too! She doesn't let Brent get away with ANYTHING and I was proud of her for giving as good as she did. She has some serious steel walls though and after finding out how she was bullied and treated in high school, I don't blame her one bit. I hated how her and Brent's history got so warped and ruined by pettiness and jealous mean girls. Their history definitely plays a role in their current relationship and it's no easy task for Brent to win Kennedy's heart. He has to work for it, but he does so brilliantly and I love that moment where he lays it all on the line for her. He doesn't mince words, doesn't play games. That's a man after my own heart right there. As always, Emma Chase delivers on the delicious, sexy times, as well as the swoony ones! I enjoyed seeing Stanton, Sofia, Jake, Chelsea, and the kids again too. Seeing them interact as a group really made my heart happy and they have a great dynamic together. The extended epilogue was everything I could ever want for these characters and it's a bittersweet feeling to say goodbye. However, I thought Chase did a wonderful job with this third novel in the Legal Briefs series. As always, I can't wait to see where she takes us next!

I love all books by Emma Chase, but in this case I think Brent and Kennedy surpassed my expectations. This book is amazing, I got all emotions possible while reading it. It took me on sit to get through it all and I still wanted more. I totally recommend this book to anyone, even though if you haven't read the previous ones so you can jump on the train to read anything by Emma Chase in the future, I just one-click to preorder whenever I get the notifications, no need to even read the summary I know I will love it. And Brent and Kennedy are my new favorite book couple.

Emma Chase writes from the male POV like other author. Her writing is down right hilarious...her characters perfectly developed. She brings laughter and sweetness onto the pages of her books. A great way to spend a rainy day. My only problem with an Emma Chase book is that I read them so fast and have to wait for the next one.

“I want to figure her out, to learn every part of her–the soft curves, the sharp edges, the dark, shadowy corners she tries so hard to hide. I want to break down her doors, climb her ivory tower. I want to slay all her ducking dragons. She probably won’t appreciate it at first–but eventually she’ll come around. It’ll be great.” Appealed is the third book in the Legal Briefs series, and while it can be read as a stand-alone, I do recommend that you check out the other books in this series for full enjoyment. One the things that I loved the most about this book, was that it was all from Brent’s point of view. I loved getting to be inside Brent’s head, and let me tell you, his head was quiet a mess. Brent was one of those guys who loved living the single life and never really had his sights set on settling down…that is until Kennedy comes back into the picture. Kennedy was the one. The girl he always wanted, but thought broke his heart. Only, Kennedy is nothing like the girl he remembers. Kennedy is all grown up and wants to make Brent’s life a living hell. Sounds easy enough right? Kennedy however, was no way prepared for the connection and chemistry that she and Brent would have. The more time these two spend together, the harder it is to fight what fate is throwing at them. Will Brent and Kennedy be able to move on from the past? What will happen when the two of them can no longer fight the fire that is growing between the two of them? You’ll just have to read to find out! Appealed was a quick and easy read for me. It is an exciting story about first love and a second chance at romance with a little court drama thrown in between. I was pulled into Brent and Kennedy’s story from the very beginning and devoured this book in one sitting. I couldn’t get enough of Brent and Kennedy together. I loved the chemistry and connection that they shared. Their banter was incredible. They both gave just as good as they got and I couldn’t wait to hear what they would say next. Their story was smart, sexy, hilarious at times and overall, just really entertaining. There is just so much to love about this book and it is definitely my favorite in this series. Emma Chase has given me one incredible read. I’ve followed the Legal Brief Series from the very beginning and with each book, I have fallen more in love with the characters and this series. If you’ve been thinking about checking out this series, I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. What you will get is an entertaining story-line with fun characters, a little drama and a lot of sexy good romance!

Appealed by Emma Chase is a terrifically sexy, second chance romance. The storyline is fresh, modern and engaging. This is a fast-paced read the flows fluidly from beginning to end. Ms. Chase does an excellent job of creating spicy seduction scenes that sizzle with heat. The story is told from the male's point of view, which is not only the author's forte, it is refreshing. Brent Mason and Kennedy Randolph fell in love with each other before they graduated boarding school. Due to unfortunate circumstances and miscommunication, their time together ended abruptly and they moved on without each other. Now fifteen years later, they are both successful attorneys practicing in Washington DC. Brent is a criminal lawyer, while Kennedy is a federal prosecutor. They finally get a chance to talk and iron out their differences. One thing leads to another and they rekindle their love from way back when. I truly enjoyed this humorous and hot romance. Since Ms. Chase does a great job of filling in any crucial information from the past, this book can be read as a standalone. However, I recommend reading the entire Legal Briefs series, because it is just that good. Complimentary copy courtesy of the publisher via NetGalley.

I always find it amazing how Emma Chase tells a story... once I start reading I am completely lost to it. How it's always fresh and engaging, sexy and fun. There are these great characters that I want to be friends with and hang out with. She's truly a fantastic storyteller. Appealed was everything I could have ever wanted, then right at the end, it was more. It was pretty damn perfect. 5 stars! So, I loved this, I think that's obvious. Brent was so full of personality and charm, I couldn't get enough. Kennedy was great too. I love a feisty woman who stand up for herself. One of my favorite things is animosity between characters because it explodes into electric chemistry. This was off the charts! I love when characters give good fight. It was fun and playful and I could feel that want and need between the two. There was this passionate connection that created so much heat. Holy hot! So awesome! Such an excellent story. Loved learning the history between Brent and Kennedy, excellent development with a fantastic build. So much tension between the two, I loved watching them spar and the subtle changes as they open up and things progress. Brent is funny and sexy but there is this undercurrent of emotion and I love his self discovery. I wanted to hug him, scream at him, and tell him to get a clue all at once. I was just so invested. It was awesome! I could really relate to Kennedy, how she got such a tough exterior and how that formed who she was today. There were so many funny parts in this. I burst out laughing a few times. There was a great balance of entertaining, sexy, and emotional throughout. It was all so well thought out. There's more Stanton and Sofia and Jake and Chelsea as well. I loved all the updates about what was new for Stanton and Sofia and what was going on with the McQuaid kids. Those kids still melt my heart. It was just such a solid, well rounded story. There were new characters as well and they were all just so great and smartly woven in. Fantastic writing, story, characters, build, pace, everything. As much as I didn't want it to end, as much as I didn't want to say goodbye, it really was the perfect ending. And that extended epilogue, it was beautiful… the most precious and wonderful ending ever. All the feelings and connections pouring through made my heart feel full and happy and loved the characters even more. Thank you to Emma Chase. Complimentary copy received for honest review.

I think it's safe to say that Brent Mason is already one of my favorite characters of 2016. He is sexy, hilarious and inappropriate at the worst times. Kennedy was so strong and feisty as can be. She had a comeback to anything anyone could possibly tell her and she never backed down from a challenge. In fact, she loved them. She is a damn good lawyer and one of my favorite female heroines. Ever. I honestly loved her character. Brent and Kennedy had a lot of history- they were best friends while attending school and had a fall-out that wasn't very pretty. The glimpses into both of their pasts really makes the reader gain a better understanding and appreciation for Brent and Kennedy. I spent a lot of time while I read the book being in awe over Kennedy's character. She refused to back down and she fought for justice every step of the way. I admired her so much for that. Emma Chase has made me fall head over heels in love with the beautiful characters she has created and I wholeheartedly recommend this to all of my fellow book lovers. Actually, I kind of just want to go back and read the entire series all over again. If you guys have not met Stanton, Jake and Brent, make sure to add these books to your TBR! The Legal Briefs series is a MUST read. *Disclaimer: A Review Copy was kindly was provided to Reads By Rose from Gallery Books in exchange for an honest review.
