Overview

Trying to discover the identity of a murder victim brings together the vampire Dmitri and a hunter for the Guild, Honor. And as the gruesome murders continue, a lethal sensuality explodes between them.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In the intensely dark, violent, and romantic fourth Guild Hunter novel (after Archangel's Consort), Singh focuses on the 1,000-year-old vampire Dmitri, lieutenant to the archangel Raphael, and Guild Hunter Honor, still recovering after a rogue vampire kidnapped and tortured her for two months. Assigned by the Guild to work with Dmitri toward solving the strange murder of a young vampire, Honor must confront the conflicting emotions he inspires, which intensify when the investigation bleeds into her past abduction and Dmitri vows revenge on her attackers. Their relationship develops explosively and becomes one of equals despite the centuries of age difference. Singh's vampires, angels, hunters, and archangels engage in global power struggles within a complex larger story that new readers will find challenging. An engrossing narrative, vivid characters, and a well-imagined world mitigate those difficulties, resulting in a heart-pounding and strongly emotional read. (Sept.)

This is a great entry in a strong series

Archangel Raphael and Elena are visiting Japan. In his absence his lieutenant the millennium old Dmitri the vampire runs the New York operation.

The head of a rookie vampire with a strange tattoo is found. Dmitri visits the Hunter Guild asking them to translate the language. Guild Hunter Honor St. Nicholas is the language expert of ancient archaic languages. However, she fears vampires having been held captive and tortured by rogues for two months. Still he admires her grit as she refuses to allow her trepidations to cripple her efforts or ignore her attraction to Dmitri. As their inquiry leads to those who battered her body and soul, Dmitri vows vengeance for what they did to this human he cherishes.

Dmitri who has been a kick butt (Elena can affirm that) support character in the Archangel saga (see Archangel's Kiss, Archangel's Consort and Archangel's Blade) takes center stage as the co-star and proves he can be an exciting lead male with a female partner. The romantic urban fantasy story line is action-packed but character driven by the pairing of a dangerous vampire and an emotionally injured hunter. This is a great entry in a strong series.

    Dark, Dangerous, and Delicious

The 4th book in the Guild Hunter's series changes to feature Dmitri, Archangel Raphael's 2nd-in-command at the angel towers. While the 3 previous books were all about Elena and Raphael, I was not scared to see how this 4th book would turn out because I love the entire world and I'm happy she is continuing it. Elena and Raphael contributed to this book in small parts and I was happy to see them.

Dmitri definitely stole the show. A very dark and dangerous vampire, his history is revealed along with the herioine, Honor who is the perfect counterpart to Dmitri. Even though I have read the previous books multiple times, I completely forgot about how Dmitri chased down Elena in the first book and how very dangerous he is. He was not happy about Raphael and Elena and this book really dives into his history and why that is so. It was a page-turner to see how Raphael met Dmitri and heart-clenching to see why he is the way he is.

The tension was delicious and those small little peeks where we were taken into his history and the way he interacts with Honor was awesome.

This book will give you happy sighs as you read through it and keep you up until 2am. I can't say anything better about it. I also can't wait until Bluebell's book! I am torn between wanting more Elena and Raphael... or wanting to see more Dmitri and Honor... but I think I know where Bluebell is being taken and I can't wait to read that story too!

This book should be on your auto-buy list, have fun reading it!

    This series keeps getting better!

I received an ARC preview of this book and read it in under a day - couldn't put it down!! I loved Dimitri & Honor's story. There was a wonderful symmetry to the whole tale and despite it being rather dark and brutal, it was also very touching and sweet at the same time. It took me a while to get into this series b/c the lead men are soo 'other', but once they grow on ya, they're irresistible. I look forward to the next installment (of not only this series, but also the Psy-Changling series). Basically anything Nalini writes! Check it out!

The Guild Hunter series gets even better!

With this, the 4th book in the Guild Hunter series but the first which features one of the 7, Raphael's elite protective force of angels and vampires, we get Dmitri's story...and what a story it is. When Dmitri and Illium find the head of a newly made vampire with an unreadable tattoo which may be the only means of both identifying him and providing a motive for his murder, Raphael's second in command decides to bring the Guild - the powerful organization that re-captures runaway vampires - in on the case. Honor St. Nicholas has been hiding out in her studies at the Guild. Months earlier she had been abducted, held and tortured by a group of vampires playing very sick games. For 2 months she had held on to her sanity with tooth and claw until her fellow Guild hunters rescued her. But now she is merely...existing. When Sara, the Guild Director, assigns her to be a consultant to Angel Tower because of her proficiency in ancient languages, she doesn't know if she can survive close contact with vampires...even those who are supposedly good. As always happens in the Guild Hunter series, the reader is drawn into the hunt, solving a mystery, while consumed with wonder at this world of disharmony and violence policed by Angels and vampires. The backstories of both Dmitri and Honor are tragic beyond words, but have honed them to blade-like strength. Dmitri in particular undergoes a transformation in this book. He's never going to be kind, but he does regain some semblance of a soul. This is a hauntingly beautiful love story slightly different from the first 3 entries, but stands equally with them in outstanding quality.
We get a brief visit with both Elena and Raphael, the stars of the previous 3 books and, I hope and pray, many more. The scenes just cement both Elena's skill as a hunter-born and new Angel and Raphael's coldly majestic power. But the flashbacks of Dmitri's tragic life also show that Raphael can be a loyal friend; and the interactions of all the familiar characters show why this in my favorite paranormal series...my 2nd favorite being Nalini Singh's also powerfully addictive Psy/Changeling series.

I'm assuming the rest of the 7 will get stories although I'm speculating that most will get novellas rather than full-length books...accept for fan fave Illium - Bluebell definitely rates his own book

Nalini Singh gets better with every book. I adore the archangel

Nalini Singh gets better with every book. I adore the archangel series and this installation with Dmitri and Honor as the main characters was just dynamite; Their chemistry explosive. Their individual suffering and "demons" echoed one another and added a layer of sensitivity and compassion to the story. Helping each other to exorcise those demons - both metaphorically and literally - strengthened the romance and relationship btw the characters.

Although I love Elena and Raphael, I hope upon hope Singh gives us more stories of The Seven. Illium anyone?

Dmitri has intrigued me from the very beginning so when I found

Dmitri has intrigued me from the very beginning so when I found out he had his own story, I read the entire series in a week. I was not disappointed. Dmitri was everything I expected and more. Honor was such a strong woman but with just that acceptable level of vulnerability that worked perfectly with Dmitri's vengeance. And whoooo boy! When Dmitri says he's going to take care of it, does he ever! Some other reviewers stated they felt a little uncomfortable with the level of violence, but this is a violent world and sometimes violence is the only thing that settles the score.

I absolutely loved Honor. She reminds me a bit of Anna from Patricia Briggs's A&O series. Soft yet tough. Vulnerable but strong. Sympathetic yet blindingly fierce, especially when it comes to her man. Honor has lived through the unthinkable, but still lives. Still fights to be the woman she once was. How can you not love that kind of heroine?

I also loved seeing so much of Ashwini! Please Ms Singh - write her and Janvier's book already!!

I'm giving this 4.95 stars, begrudgingly. I didn't exactly love the angle with Honor and her...origin. I much would have preferred that to have been a genuine ghostly visitation, but otherwise a spectacular read.

I originally loved the 1st and 2nd books of this series. The 3r

I originally loved the 1st and 2nd books of this series. The 3rd I found hard to keep interst. While I enjoyed the 3rd it got very "Angel Political" but was still a good read. When I saw the 4th book came out I was not in a huge rush to get it, boy was I mistaken. While I LOVE Demetri in the other books and his sinful ways, I have become his faithful follower with this book. He is just such a fabulous, key character of this series. And as Honor discovers, he is a SINFULLY, delicous man. I love that he has thawed out a little and love the direction Singh took with this particular books. I hope there is a story with Ashwin too and her love interest. They were only briefly brought up in the other books. Not key characters so I forsee something in the future with them - at least I hope. I was a little disappointed that Elena and Rapheal were not much in this story. If I had to guess, Singh is bringing together the key players to become the powerhouse of the world with Raphael becoming a major authorithy of some kind with his evolving process.

Nalini Singh does it again.. I know I say that a lot but honest

Nalini Singh does it again.. I know I say that a lot but honestly the woman ROCKS.. Archangel’s Blade the Fourth book in her Guild Hunters Series takes you down that long steamy path straight into decadent delight. Oh yeah, I said steamy. In Book Four Ms Singh moves away from Raphael and Elena and gives us a Dimitri treat. Can we say sex on a stick? Oh yeah, and you seriously want to lick. him. up.

Dimitri, probably the strongest vampire alive second in command to an Archangel. Angels fear him. And yet he is devoted to Raphael a friend from another lifetime. A friendship that had been created in innocence and forged in despair. A promise of revenge fulfilled and secure that if either had ever crossed that line the other would somehow take him down. Dimitri is dark and devious he is the ultimate bad boy. And yet, he doesn’t hurt or brutalize the innocent and those who would destroy a female is doomed. His heart was given over a thousand years ago and he would gladly have died a human. One of the few Vampires that did not choose the Making but had it forced upon him by evil.

Honor, a hunter in hiding.. Deep in the belly of the guild there are caverns where a hunter can hide, regroup or just get some quiet time. Honor has hidden there for months, since she was captured and tortured both mentaly and physically. Used for feeding, used as a sex toy.. battered, bruised. She walks out but no longer hunter secure. She is lost. She is also the most knowledgeable hunter of ancient text and the guild needs her. The tower needs her.. she has no choice she must work with Dimitri to discover who is behind the latest attack.

Both Honor and Dimitri have haunted pasts.. beyond the more recent one and Ms Singh does a wonderful job of merging their pasts, their demons both those around them and those within them, together. Since Dimitri has been a dark dangerous character in previous books, to make him a simple character now would destroy any and all credibility and yet..

This was my favorite book so far probably because I didn’t expect it. Dimitri as a hero has an edgier feel. He isn’t ever tamed, he can’t be he has seen too much, done too much and since he was born human he lost too much. Honor has to touch the deepest recess of his inner self in order to find the real him. It was intriguing the way Ms Singh does this. She took us in an entirely different direction. While, I won’t give spoilers I will say this was the one part of the book that was easily decipherable. You pretty much knew how it was going to be resolved and yet it was moving, compelling and powerful. One of the best things Ms Singh does in this series is she offers us choices of evil. We know who the bad guys are, we know they are the ones to watch out for and yet she always manages to offer a twist. A sly insinuation, yes our bad guy is a bad guy but is he/she THE bad guy? We are never completely sure. Not until the very end.. and she throws us red herring after red herring.. most excellently done..

As I have stated with every book.. this is a must read series..

    Shauni

Wow, I mean really wow. I bought the book and then waited to read it. I was having an issue coming to terms with the first Guild Hunter book I would read without Elena and Raphael, but then when I finally got into the story I was sorry I waited so long. Dmitri has a heart! A moving story of love that transcends time. When people are meant to be together nothing can or should stand in their way. I loved it and this only cements my loyalty to Nalini Singh and I can not wait until the next book, no matter who is the lead!

This series has a different take on vampire mythology and it's really interesting. I really enjoy this series but this is my favorite so far. I like Raphael and Elena but I hope the next books are about the rest of the seven.

great read if you like angels and series

Archangels Blade was great. It carries you away to a different kind of world where ahgels rule and vampires have a term of service for being "made" and carry out most of services required by the angels to run the world. This book centers around a vamp who is head of the archangels security force. Until now, this vamp had lost all of his humanity..... Read it to see what happens! you might want to rad the 3 preceding books so you have a history. They were good also.
