    Good Story, Gorgeous Art!

This book is for any Batman fan and anyone interested in the new video game, Arkham City. It explains what happened after the Arkham Asylum riots to what will happen in the new game. The story, written by Paul Dini, features Batman as he does detective work, goes undercover, and kicks butt. All good stuff! The art work is absolutely amazing! It features beautiful work by Carlos D'Anda and the spreads of Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Two Face, and more of your favorite "Bat" characters are breathtaking. The only things that I did not like about the book was that Dini took the easy way out in pretending that Batman never encountered the manipulative Dr Hugo Strange. What a letdown! Also, Dini didn't really stress the importance of Arkham City from the Gotham public point of view as to why it was so critical to being built. If we want to get technical, we could say that the portrayal of Robin is a very poor one as well. The book also comes with an awesome gallery of sketches, plus the five digital chapters of Arkham City featured online. You should definitely go out and buy this book because you get a great story with witty dialogue, unique dazzling art you won't find anywhere else, and the beginning of the journey Batman will take you into Arkham City.

    Essential Batman reading!

A terrific Batman story, ARKHAM CITY works both as a stand-alone GN and as the bridge between the Arkham Asylum and Arkham City games. Gotham City has been split down the middle between the "citizens" and the "villains." As ruthless Mayor Sharp and his shock troopers round up everyone from minor offenders to kingpins like Penguin and Two-Face, Batman finds his efforts to establish a foothold in the prison thwarted at every turn. The real villain, Hugo Strange, is a master manipulator who knows how to counter Batman in both his costumed identity and as Bruce Wayne. Dini's story moves at an exciting clip while D'Anda's artwork captures the look and feel of the now-classic Rocksteady video games. Also included, five stories focusing on such characters as Robin, Bane and various secondary characters who find their lives in turmoil thanks to the construction of the prison. The looming sense of dread expressed in the short stories as Arkham City nears completion acts as good counterpoints to the larger epic Batman tale.
