Overview

Unlike her mother, Lady Jasmine, and older sister, India, Lady Fortune Lindley spares little thought for romantic love. With her fiery red hair and proud beauty, Fortune has no lack of suitors. William Devers is an ideal match-wealthy, well-favored, and eager to have this free-spirited creature as his wife. But it's William's disinherited brother, Kieran-ruggedly handsome and dangerous as sin-who sets Fortune's senses reeling. Caught between the desires of two very different brothers, Fortune ignites both passion and revenge, and discovers a destiny that tests her will to claim a new land, and the one man she will love forever...

Her longtime assistant, Judy Walker, types the final draft. Because she believes in happy endings, Bertrice Small has been married to the same man, her hero, George, for thirty-eight years. Enjoyable hsitorical romance

In 1630, after twenty years away, Jasmine accompanied by her third husband Lord James Leslie and her youngest daughter Lady Fortune Mary Lindley returns to Ulster. Jasmine hopes Fortune finds a husband in the land where the child was born just after her second husband, Fortune¿s father, was murdered. Regardless of whether Fortune finds a mate or not, the lass will gain control of Maguire¿s Ford, an estate where Catholics and Protestants harmoniously live and work together.

The prime choice is William Devers. However, Jasmine has problems with William¿s biased mother, who plans to toss the Catholics from Maguire¿s Ford once Fortune marries her son. William immediately wants the independent and feisty Fortune. In turn, she realizes he is the perfect mate for someone as pragmatic as she is. However, her heart stirs only when she meets William¿s disinherited older brother Kiernan, a devout Catholic who has given up everything to be able to practice his religion. While Fortune and Kiernan fall in love, an obsessed William will do whatever it takes to make Fortune his wife.

BESIEGED is the best historical romance that Bertrice Small has written in several years. The story line centers on the historical basis of the Irish Protestant-Catholic issue in a reasonable and honest way that provides insight to the audience. The lead couple is a majestic duo and the support cast augments the plot through their prejudices or tolerances. Jasmine embraces diversity as the ultimate win-win situation to the point that Dr. Covey could use her as a role model. Though a sidebar starring William slows down the novel, Ms. Small shows why she is a sub-genre superstar.

    It was a sweet Read

I finished the book in 1 1/2 days. It was a sweet story. But I must say, after reading the Skye O'Malley story, and Love Slave...this was a nice story. Not the type of read where you just dont want to do anything book finish the book and savor it as well. I like Beatrice Small writings....this was just not at all what I thought. But those who dont know Bertrice, do read the O'Mally series it is absolutely wonderful. I also enjoyed LOVE SLAVE, I read it twice. Sorry Beatrice

Not a good read at all

I don't recommend this book at all. It's almost an afterthought to the Skye O'Malley series. Leave this one out if you intend to read the series. Buy it used if you still want to read it. I am a huge Bertrice Small fan and this book is lousy. Sorry, Bertrice!

    A Pleasure to Read

Fortune Lindley, the strong and opinionated daughter of Rowan Lindgley and Jasmine Lindley-Leslie is a delight to read about. This story, set in the land of Ireland was well put together. The history and the way that the characters were written around it kept me up reading until the wee hours of every morning. For those of you who are history buffs such as I am, this book will entice you to read more and more. This is a must read.

    A Big Letdown!

Bertrice Small has always been my favorite author. I have read every one of her books at least 3 times. But her latest attempts, Deceived, Betrayed, Bedazzled, have been very disappointing. This book, Besieged, is no better. I feel that Betrice Small should let go of the Skye O'Malley series. I loved this series in the beginning, but get it is time to move on to something new, something fresh. The last books, including this one, have had practically the same plot. This book focuses more on the Catholic/Protestant relationship, but the charecters are boring and very predictable. I love reading Bertrice Smalls first books, but this one is a great big letdown.

Skye LIVES on in her family

I started reading romance novels when I was 14yrs old and Skye O'Malley the first book was one of the one I read at that time in my life....well when I was a teenager I realised Ms Small had written more about Skye and I couldn't seem to stop looking for more and more...well I must say I am captivated by this series and look forward to more...and more....: )

    Almost, but not quite

After the last few offerings by Ms. Small, Bedazzled, The Innocent, and Deceived to name a few, beseiged is an improvement. The first half is wonderful, bringing Fortune and her family back to Ireland. The story has action, romance, and spirit, then once the characters leave Ireland the story goes downhill fast. Fortune is left behind in England to sit and endure a strange inexplicable kidnapping plotline. It would have been better for the couple to travel to the new world together. Still it is worth reading if just for the first half.

The long awaited saga continues....and what a triumph!

Bertrice Small gifts us with yet another gem...sending the great-grandaughter of one of the most beloved and unforgettable heroines of romantic fiction - Skye O'malley - into search of her true destiny and everlasting love... Walking proudly the path of her great anscestresses, Lady Fortune Lindley is a courageous beauty determined to follow her heart...Leaving her home in Scotland, she returns to her birthplace at Maguire's Ford, a large estate that she will inherit only if she marries an Irish Protestant. Being the most practical child of Jasmine Leslie, she agrees to consider a match with the Protestant aristocrat William Devers, a man suited to her wealth and status... However, it is the rebellious and unpredictable elder brother, Keiran Devers who sets her heart aflame and senses reeling with passion... While Fortune and Keiran's forbidden ecstasy explodes, jealousy and ignorance threaten their love and forces them to claim a new land and legacy...Through the test of destiny, Fortune realizes that she is indeed very much alike with the extraordinary women of her family...proud, independent, passionate and loyal towards those they love and cherish... BESIEGED justly stands among Ms. Small's best creations...it will remind you just why you fell in love with Skye O'Malley and could not let go... It will bring all your beloved characters back to life...let Fortune and Kerian's story carry you back in time and sweep you away in their ecstasy!

    Bertrice Small does it again

I think Ms. Small has created another masterpiece in the continuation of the Skye O'Malley Saga. She leaves the reader anxious for the next installment of the story of the descendants of the indominable Skye.
