    A Hero to Die For.

Her Black Lace books books have won legions of fans and now author Emma Holly brings her own special brand of sensual adventures to traditional romance with her first novel,BEYOND INNOCENCE. The author easily surpasses other authors of erotic romance in this book filled with multi-layered characters, a plot with meat to it and steamy love scenes that are not just page fillers but actually advance the story.

When Florence Fairleigh travels to London in 1873 to meet with her recently deceased father's solicitor, little did she know that the meeting would have far-reaching implications that would affect her life forever. Originally thinking to secure a position as perhaps a governess or teacher, Florence is, instead, thrust into London's social whirl in a plot to encourage a marriage for young Freddie Burbrooke, in the hope of settling him down and sparing him society's censure. In the process, Freddie's brother, Edward, earl of Greystowe realizes he has feelings for his brother's intended-feelings that deepen and finally are reciprocated. But can a true and lasting relationship be built on a foundation of lies?

As much as I like the eroticism of this author's work, in this instance I especially enjoyed the warm relationship between the two brothers, the caring and concern Edward (the older) had for his younger, homosexual brother, Freddie. It softened Edward's dark, stern outward personality and made him more real.

BEYOND INNOCENCE hooked me from the first page and never let me down. I found myself reading long after I would have put another book down for the night just to discover how the situation would resolve itself. Emma Holly's Black Lace books are all on my 'keeper' shelf and now that she's taken her skill and talent into the traditional field, it looks as if I may have to add more space on the shelf.

    superb erotic Victorian romance

In 1873, Lord Edward Burbrooke worries about his younger brother Freddie who has been caught in an indiscretion with a footman. At about the same time impoverished Florence Fairleigh arrives in London to see her deceased father¿s solicitor Mowbry to ask if he can obtain a chaperone to sponsor her as she seeks a husband on the marriage mart. Mowbry agrees to help, but serendipitously through a peephole shows her body to a desperate Edward. Though he hardens at the sight of her, Edward decides the country innocent will be the perfect wife for Freddie.

After a short courtship, Freddie proposes and Florence accepts. To insure no trouble occurs on the sexual front, Edward arranges for Freddie and Florence to rusticate. Edward begins to fall in love with his future sister in law who is attracted to him too. They even share some passion though she remains a virgin, but all hell breaks loose when Florence catches Freddie in bed with the male steward. She flees and Edward now knows he loves her.

BEYOND INNOCENCE is a superb erotic Victorian romance. The exciting story line allows the three key cast players to fully develop before sex scenes are introduced, which is refreshingly later in the tale then usual. More important the scenes fit into the plot, a rather novel occurrence. Fans of the sub-genre will praise Emma Holly for handling Freddie¿s homosexual relationships with class as well as deftly looking at the question of sexual preference.

    HOT HOT HOT

the scenes in this book are hot, the older brother yearns for the younger brother's intended, and the appeal of the forbidden adds a nice spice to this erotic novel with a heart, I reread scenes from this book all the time!

    ***WOW***

This book I couldn't put down!!!! The story was definately a "sinfully erotic romance." It made you yearn for passion, gives you a peek into forbidden love, but doesn't leave you wanting.

A hot read with a heart!

Now I admit, I had high expectations for this book. Sometimes that's bad because then the book disappoints. That was not the case with this book! I loved it! Edward is just perfect hero material. I loved Edward and what I loved most about him was the love that he had for his brother. Their scenes together brought tears to my eyes. Now Florence is not a spitfire, she's shy yet she's stronger than she realises. The attraction they feel for each other is instant but she realises that his brother Freddie is safe and Edward thinks that Florence is Freddie's salvation. Thus the conflict. The sexual tension is sizzling. Try as he might, Edward loves Florence and Emma does a great job of letting us know what Edward is going through. I really really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. Emma made us care about all of the characters including Freddie who is struggling over who he is and who his brother wants him to be. This book is about Love in all of it's many facets.
