The third book in the phenomenal New York Times bestselling Nightshade series

Calla has always welcomed war. But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping her brother, Ansel, safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is.

Read the prequels to the Nightshade series RIFT and RISE.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Robertson Mason
Calla has never shied away from battle or her role as Alpha among her pack, a group of wolf-human hybrids called the Guardians. She has brought her old lover Ren home to keep him safe only to face the wrath of her current lover Shay. Only once everyone is together—Ren, Shay, Adene, the pack and the Searchers (humans who have fought the Guardians until recently)—can they truly begin to fight the Keepers—the evil masters of this world. This is the third book in the "Nightshade" trilogy, and it makes for an exciting finish. The relationship between former enemies and current rivals adds tension to every scene. The battle scenes are action-packed and make for quick reads. However, the main character, Calla, while written as a strong female lead, spends far too much time worrying about how her two lovers, past and present, see her. She may have been more convincing if the romantic drama was less emphasized, but her dedication to the pack and her ability to lead is unquestionable. It is important that readers start at the beginning of the trilogy since much is assumed at the start of this book. That being said, this type of storyline is typical of gothic fantasy, and this is a great example of the genre. Reviewer: Heather Robertson Mason

Gr 10 Up—It is always difficult to come to a trilogy on the third book. While some aspects of the world Cremer creates are tough to grasp for first-timers, she does a better-than-average job of catching readers up on what's happened in the previous two books. This is the story of Calla and Ren, two alpha werewolves destined to mate, and Shay, the human Calla changes into a werewolf to save him. Now revealed as the scion, Shay leads the quest for swords and scabbards that will enable the werewolves (Guardians) and humans (Searchers) to destroy the evil, slave-owning witches (Keepers). Both the quest and the triangular love story are old hat—as are werewolves as central characters at this point. Nevertheless, Bloodrose is a fun read, and a must-have for fans of the earlier titles.—Nina Sachs, Walker Memorial Library, Westbrook, ME
