Overview

Elizabeth Chapman is saved from an armed robber by a giant Kodiak bear who shifts into a large, well-muscled, and fully naked human male. But when it's revealed that the robber is the brother of a dangerous criminal, Elizabeth finds herself the target of a vendetta.

Ronan, the Bear Shifter, takes her to Shiftertown for safety, where Elizabeth learns that the mateless Ronan, alone in the world, takes care of Shifters who have also been left on their own. Having grown up in foster care, Elizabeth can only admire how protective Ronan is.

But Ronan will only let Elizabeth leave the confines of Shiftertown if he becomes her 24/7 bodyguard. Elizabeth chafes at the restriction, but agrees. The trouble is, the sassy human Elizabeth is triggering Ronan's long-buried need to find himself a mate.

    New favorite author/series!

I was sceptical of this book at first but fell in love with the characters. Theres depth to the characters and the plot/characters are believable despite it being about 'shifters'. Im now intrigued by shifter life & just purchased the rest of the series. I suspect I wont be putting my Nook down & will read strait through the series by tonight and will be eargerly awaiting her next book! I dont usually write reviews, but this book deserved one!

    Nice concept, bad writing

The author has a great concept for this series, but the writing is uninspired, wooden, cliche-ridden, and flat. Reading this quickly went from annoying to painful. It's the fantasy genre and requires suspension of disbelief, but that doesn't mean your characters can be one dimensional and change every core characteristic in the space of a page just because it's fast and doesn't require skill in scene, dialogue, or plot.

Did not mean to sound harsh, but with so many good writers in this genre, this book was a waste of money and time. Try Kresley Cole or Gena Showalter.

Writing left a lot tobe desired. .

Story was predictable. Never really attached to any characters, as there was no tension.

Okay read-could have expanded on this book.

Quick Read. Not too many twists and turns thrown into this book. You pretty much know within the first few pages who the main character is going to wind up with and how the book is going to pan out. Would have been nice to have more interaction with some of the minor characters and more explanations about the shifter changing after the breeding.

    Great Story to Read!

This was a perfect story story to get you through the time we must wait for the next full size story. Ronan makes you wish there are Kodiak bear sifters running around in our world. He's perfect for Elizabeth. They make a great couple and push along the story line that runs through the entire series. It's a must read.

    Another great story......

.....from this author! Book is 369 pgs long for those interested. I always like to know myself. Im a big fan of Jennifer Ashley and this book did not disappointed. Great story, great characters, always enjoy reading about her Shifters. If you've never read any of her books you are missing out on a great read. It was a nice romance, but definitely one of her least steamy ones, but still good if you like a gentler romance.

    Great

This book was funny and kept me on my toes with action. I like the way the characters were easy going and didn't feel unmanly about giving hugs even though they were tough guys. :) really enjoyed the book.

    Wonderful story!

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters this author has created. Elizabeth is logical & follows her intuition, without a lot of agonizing second guessing. I am looking forward to reading the entire series.

    Goldenstar

Goldenstar ran until he thought he'd fall over and die just from exhaustion. Meanwhile Redspirit never tired, hardly missing a beat as the two went down a hillside. As fate would have it, Goldenstar stepped wrong on his injured paw and went rolling head first down the hill. The moment he hits the bottom, Redspirit instantly has his jaws around the Horseclan leaders neck and sinks his teeth dangerously close to breaking it. He grins savagely as a change of plans hits him, and with a violent shake he drags Goldenstar away. Goldenstar yelped in pain and tried to attack Redspirit but couldn't reach him. He'd cut off his breathing and as he was shook around Goldenstar simply blacks out as Redspirit pulled him away.

Redspirit drags Goldenstar to his den, blood dripping and staining his white legs. Dropping him, Redspirit pads into the den and begins making acomadations. First he pads into the entrance to the tunnel that leads to the twoleg place. Halfway he blocks the tunnel with briars and brambles to keep Goldenstar from going any further before going to retrieve him and drag him inside. The tunnel is small and Redspirit hardly squeezes out, leaving Goldenstar in the dark with a half eaten mouse and rancid smell. The red tom blocks off the entrance to the tunnel with more brambles and rocks, and reorganizes the top of the den to eliminate the sunlight and block any way out. Padding out of his den, Redspirit pulls the rest of the brambles and sharp briars over the exit. Now to reach Goldenstar, a cat would have to not only break through the bramble wall of the den, but also find the tunnel entrance which is tightly packed with brambles for quite a great distance before reaching the small pocket he was trapped in. "Now I only have to wait," Redspirit purrs, pleased with his work. The red tom jumps onto a rock that sits atop the den and begins cleaning the blood and thorns from his pelt, deciding to get some rest before Lilywolf and others from Horseclan eventually find their leader.

    Goldenstar

As the fox takes her pups further into the den he turned to look at Lilywolf and figure out how to get her home. Blackfire startled him, having never met the tom before. "Who are you?" He growled, in no mood for any trouble causing rouges. But he knew he couldn't get Lilywolf back on his own and decided Blackfire might come in handy. "Follow us home, and make sure that fox doesn't come after us," he told the warrior, still assessing Lilywolf. "Leave it there until Flightpath and Flowernose are here, they will know what to do. I'll try to carry you as far as I can," he meowed, ducking underneath the grey tabby and lifting her onto his back. "Sorry about the mess, I'll give your pelt a good cleaning when we get back okay?" He told her lightheartly to distract her from the pain. Beckoning for Blackfire to follow, Goldenstar padded out the den and slowly limped towards home with Lilywolf. ~Goldenstar
(That's okay! I'm going to bed now though! Night!)

    Blackfire

Oce everyone is safe he slips off to asses his wound. When he sees it he realizes that he will need a medicine cats attention so he slips to the horseclan border, waiting for apatrol or goldenstar.
