I was sceptical of this book at first but fell in love with the characters. Theres depth to the characters and the plot/characters are believable despite it being about 'shifters'. Im now intrigued by shifter life & just purchased the rest of the series. I suspect I wont be putting my Nook down & will read strait through the series by tonight and will be eargerly awaiting her next book! I dont usually write reviews, but this book deserved one!

The author has a great concept for this series, but the writing is uninspired, wooden, cliche-ridden, and flat. Reading this quickly went from annoying to painful. It's the fantasy genre and requires suspension of disbelief, but that doesn't mean your characters can be one dimensional and change every core characteristic in the space of a page just because it's fast and doesn't require skill in scene, dialogue, or plot.
Did not mean to sound harsh, but with so many good writers in this genre, this book was a waste of money and time. Try Kresley Cole or Gena Showalter.

This was a perfect story story to get you through the time we must wait for the next full size story. Ronan makes you wish there are Kodiak bear sifters running around in our world. He's perfect for Elizabeth. They make a great couple and push along the story line that runs through the entire series. It's a must read.

Story was predictable. Never really attached to any characters, as there was no tension.

I really loved the story and like everyone else i wanted more of it but I didnt like the oppression that humans forced the shifters to live under, it was Jim Crow all over again and it was in Texas. Im trying to figure out if the story out-weighs the descrimination. The shifters are living in modern day reservations. Why do I feel like I want to march for the shifters? Must be because she's an awesome writer I will read again with my "Let Freedom Ring" hat on though.

Her characters are developed perfectly. She gives loads of details throughout her book about the main characters and the surrounding ones in order for the reader to follow the story line throughout each book perfectly, without doing what some readers complain about, being overwhelmed with details to the point where all there is, is a slow moving book that goes nowhere because the author spends their time solely creating the scene and not moving on. Jennifer Ashley gives the perfect balance of detail to explain what is happening and still move the book along with the rapid pace of an action-packed book. After buying her first book, I waited not-so patiently for the second and then even more so for the third. When I found out that she had this book as well, I was thrilled. This book fits perfectly and is just as amazing short as her normal-length books are. I would totally recommend this book and the rest of the series to any one who enjoys this genre.
