Overview

Whether you're writing a novel, painting with watercolors, composing a symphony, or baking peanut butter cookies, creativity plays a crucial role in achieving satisfaction and excellence. But, for many of us, accessing our creative core is difficult, if not impossible.

Now, acclaimed film producer Don Hahn offers his own unorthodox, yet highly effective methods for reawakening the creative spirit. Blending personal and often hilarious anecdotes with presciptive advice for rediscovering your creative self, Hahn explores the emotions that accompany creativity and discusses the important of constructing a creative environment.

Hahn describes the creative process in stages and lists the forces that drive creativity: balance, chaos, persistence, truth--plus chocolate and coffee. Best of all, he demonstrates how his theories can be put into practice, using his own highly successful career as an example.

Filled with humor and empathy, along with some good old-fashioned practical advice, Brain Storm takes readers on an exciting journey to creative greatness.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Laura Pastuszek
Don Hahn exquisitely explains how his global thinking makes for a literal brain storm. He ingeniously uses modern-day life examples as well as wisdom from the ancients of old to illustrate his points. Numerous quotes from famous people, references to artists, as well as stories from his own life through the mundane and the exhilarating, have deeply impacted Hahn. The book is a conglomeration of his specific stories from childhood through his adult life, and influences from school teachers, the medical community, historians, philosophers, other cultures, inventors, fellow colleagues and presidents. Each chapter embodies the essentials for a "brainstorm" of creativity to flourish. Page after page contains information from every corner of the world that has shaped this amazing producer's creative abilities. He uniquely and thoroughly conveys to readers how the creative process is fueled by referencing a computerized toilet in Japan, Halloween in Hollywood, and spiritual connections, just to name a few. Hahn weaves in practical life principles that are paramount to developing creativity in every human being regardless of whether they deem themselves as creative or not. Seeing this process unfold through Hahn's eyes will inspire any teen, adult, student or teacher desire to appreciate new experiences, and provide the necessary tools to reach greater depths of creativity. Brain Storm is a REPRINT of Dancing Corn Dogs In The Night

The publisher fails to mention that "Brain Storm" is a reprint of an earlier Don Hahn book "Dancing Corn Dogs In The Night". It is the same book, by the same author, and only the pop culture references in the book have been updated along with the title to mislead consumers: "Dancing Corn Dogs in the Night: Reawakening Your Creative Spirit" Published by Hyperion 1992 "Brain Storm: Unleashing Your Creative Self" Published by Disney Editions 2011 I didn't appreciate being sold the same book with a different title. I just want to warn consumers who may already own "Dancing Corn Dogs in the Night". BTW I would give "Dancing Corn Dogs In The Night" 4 stars.

If you are creative, this is a must read.

Don Hahn is one of the most delightfully creative people in this world. His films are among the most successful of all time and his ideas about the creative process work.
