Young and beautiful, with a mix of cool elegance and smoldering earthiness, Laura Calder will never be content to be some man's wife, living on a Montana ranch like her mother. She's thrilled to tour Europe with her sophisticated "Aunt" Tara, taking in the cocktail banter and sampling the good life at every opportunity. But as her trip comes to a close, Laura's future feels more unsettled to her than before and the dazzling array of party games less satisfying. What she wants is to be her own woman. What she wants is everything.
And then, in one evening, her life changes completely as she meets the two men--and ultimate rivals--who will lay claim to her heart. Tall and dark, with a will of iron, Boone Rutledge is the son of a Texas billionaire and used to getting his way. The moment he lays eyes on her, Boone wants her. And so does Sebastian Dunshill, Earl of Crawford. The handsome, sexy Londoner has more charm than should be allowed, and a few secrets he can't share, but he knows Laura is the sort of woman he'll chase halfway around the world to make his own.
Caught up in a whirlwind courtship with both men that will take her from the nightclubs of Rome to the manor houses of England, across the dusty flatlands of Texas and finally home to the Triple C Ranch, Laura is determined to make her choice on her own terms. But not everything is as it seems, and that Calder pride will lead Laura into a danger for which her sheltered background has never prepared her. . .and to a man who is a threat to the family she loves more than she knows. . .
Fast-paced and involving, Calder Promise is Janet Dailey's most captivating novel yet, a richly written story that explores the dreams, ambition, and complicated heart of one woman in search of a place where she belongs.

I liked reading about Laur's life after she left college. I hoped she would end up with the person she did. I won't say who so others will read the book
She has the down home morals as well as the privalage of money. She handles it well.
Worth reading.

This book wasn't one of my favorites. But, it was still a good book. I wanted the character of Laura to be a little more spunky and self-assured. I also wanted the characters of the two male leads more developed. I haven't read all the calder series so I did scratch my head a couple of times wondering about different things that were wirtten. If you are looking for a nice bit of fluff to read on a rainy day, this is the book.

A very good Romance Novel.

In'Calder Promise'we get to know the outcome of Trey's twin sister's life and the story needs to be told because it ties up a lot of loose ends. However it was not my favorite Calder book. My favorite would be 'Calder Pride' which tells Cat's and Logan Echohawk's story. But the entire saga needs to be read, in order, from the first Calder who leaves Texas and drives his cattle to Montana, to the first Calder great-great-great- grandson who brings it full circle back to the original Calder ranch in Texas. If you're a Janet Dailey fan, a 'western yarn' fan, a love story fan read the entire Calder Saga You won't be disappointed.

I was sorely dissappointed in this addition to the Calder series. I have become attached to all the members of the Calder family but Laura Calder was not like them. She seemed manipulative and was not as determined and sure in her ways as the other Calders. I wish she had been a stronger more admirable character. I guess it's a good thing the other Calder stories are impossible to put down.

what completely horrible characters. i understand this is fiction, but i'm usually able to at least relate in some way to the characters i read about. but laura was so completely selfish and unlikeable. she claims to be in love with one man, sebastian, so she leads another man on, boone. and then later in the story, once engaged to boone, she sleeps with sebastian and claims it's not cheating. hmm, what fun characters. there was absolutely nothing about this book that i liked. don't bother!!

Tara Calder takes her twenty-one year old niece Laura on a grand European tour following the latter¿s college graduation. Laura is having a terrific time with her aunt, who in many ways is more like a mother than her mom is. At a gala in Rome, Laura helps billionaire wheelchair bound Max Rutledge go outside where a few minutes later she meets his handsome son Boone. Laura can see the tension between the two Rutledge alpha males, but finds the younger one quite attractive. As they head back inside, Laura and English Earl Sebastian Dunhill accidentally walk into each other. Now she has two wealthy hunks wanting to date her.................................. When Laura returns to her home the Triple C Ranch in Montana, she is followed across the ocean by her two persistent suitors. Her family wonders whom she will choose between the two studs if any....................... The latest Calder romance is a war tale starring a favorite protagonist and two likable hunks. Laura¿s antics are fun to follow as series fans will wonder where the discipline she musters in Italy not to shout out ¿yee-haw¿ in an upper crust event comes from. Back on the ranch, Laura rides her two dudes on a merry chase that will please contemporary readers............................. Harriet Klausner
