Good book - It has its moments.

While its an easy read and definitely informative as an inside look at todays poker craze, it has what is an all too common theme running through it, which is, there is an excuse for everything I do. Bipolar Disorder is an all too common diagnosis for people with behavioural problems. The fact is, no one really knows what bipolar disorder is. The book relies too heavily on this diagnosis as some sort of excuse for Mike. Mike needs no excuse. Almost everyone at some point in their life deals with depression, and its also very common for everyone to experience "hyper' moments that seem to last for days or weeks. Mike is no more bipolar than Tiger Woods is 'sex addicted'. Mike, like Tiger, just missed the step in growing up where he has to take responsibility for himself, like everyone else.

Depression and the battle to self preservation

I love "The Mouth" after reading this inspirational true story. It has everything. Drugs, sex, gamble, fraud, entrapment and gile. Mike has a way of making you feel he is just ordinary in extraordinary predicaments. He downplays his intelligence by revealing his inner demons and shares a side of himself that must have been hard to do. I truly respect Mike after reading this and am pulling for him in his pursuit of happiness...

Good book, but didn't go all the way to the river

While I found the autobiography to be a good read, I felt something was missing from making it one of the best poker books. There was plenty of information on the poker action, but I would have liked to delve one level deeper into Mike and his demons. Maybe there isn't another level and it is simply a medical/behavioral issue with no more to it, but I would have liked to see Mike's co-authors help him dive one level deeper.

A must read for any poker player, but for non-poker players it probably doesn't go far enough.

    Mike "The Mouth" Matusow

Honestly this book was almost forced on me by a poker buddy. I thought I knew who and what Mike "The Mouth" was all about. I was wrong!

This is a great book, not only for the honesty that Mike shows in retelling his story but also for the history of the poker boom that he was a part of. Someone is going to write a book about the last ten years of poker but to hear it told from the inside as part of Mike's life was so much more meaningful.

Every poker fan should give this book a read, it's fast and so interesting to follow the rollercoaster that is Mike's life.

A Provocative Look Into One of Poker's Most Well-Known Players

Mike Matasow the poker player makes for great television. But Mike the person is much more interesting and his story makes for a great read. Follow him into the world of high-stakes poker through his highest highs and lowest lows, from winning some of the world's most prestigious poker events to doing time in jail, all the while fighting a serious psychiatric illness. You will not be able to put this book down!
