From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble ReviewThe latest Marvel omnibus collects Nos.1-4 of the Civil War: X-Men comic book series, which chronicles the chaos that erupts after the reality-altering House of M and subsequent Decimation events caused millions of mutants to lose their supernatural abilities, leaving only 198 with powers. Those few who haven't been "depowered" become refugees after the Office of National Emergency (O*N*E) -- a division of the Department of Homeland Security -- brings in giant Sentinel overlords, both to protect the mutants, who are using the Xavier Institute as sanctuary, and to keep an eye on them as well. But tensions begin to escalate between the 198 and Sentinel Squad O*N*E, and renegade mutant adventurers Domino and Shatterstar eventually mastermind a plan to free the 198. After a truly explosive rescue attempt succeeds, two factions set out on a wild race against time to find them. The mission of the government-sponsored team (led by energy-absorbing mutant Bishop) is to round up the 198 and return them to the safety of the Institute, while the other group, made up of four original X-Men (Archangel, Iceman, Beast, and Cyclops) will do anything not to see their kind imprisoned and oppressed again.
Fans of the Marvel Universe will absolutely devour this dramatic, action-packed miniseries, which is part of the much larger Civil War saga (Civil War: Choosing Sides, Civil War: The Initiative, et al.) and literally redefines the Marvel Universe and all the characters in it. Paul Goat Allen
