Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Miranda McClain
What do three seemingly broken clocks in three different locations all have in common? And what do they have to do with a one hundred year old secret society? That is just what Rosie Smith, Viola Hart, Sylvester Cho, and Woodrow Knox, also known as The Question Marks, intend to find out. But once this team of underage sleuths uncovers the truth behind this century old mystery they end up with more than they bargained for. For starters, their discovery wins them local fame. However, it also attracts the attention of some very creepy characters that are after a forgotten treasure and think the Question Marks can lead them to it. The four young detectives set out to find the treasure and along the way they solve various other mysteries they come across such as, the case of the "Bungling Bargain Hunter" or the "Mystery of the Missing Mouth Gear". When they eventually achieve their goal they realize that treasure does not always mean what most people think it does. Some readers may find the continuous plot interruptions distracting, but others will enjoy the challenge of figuring out the answer to each new puzzle. Each mystery gives insight into one of the four main characters who, when not busy solving mysteries, are average kids with problems many young readers will relate to, such as, having a mom with a new boyfriend or adjusting to a new living situation. All in all, this second book in "The Mysterious Four" series has a lot to offer mystery lovers including a satisfying surprise ending. Reviewer: Miranda McClain
